View Full Version : Please Suggest Good Reseller Hosts
uaziz 09-27-2004, 08:13 PM My first post!
I am looking for a good company that provides SOLID reseller services. I would preferable be looking for a company that has its own back-end and isn't a reseller itself.
The forum has mostly gone over names that are cheap or havent specified quality of service.
Money is not an issue. I am running a software house with proper staffing. We already have a couple of dedicated servers with servermatrix to run business applications. However going dedicated for webhosting doesnt make sense as it require a lot of time/maintainance. We are initially planning to host about 1000 domains. So keeping the project in mind I require reliable service and fast tech-support.
Please recommend me a list of companies that fall into this domain. Also any other suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks
UA
acnet 09-27-2004, 09:31 PM I strongly suggest gazzin.com as gazzin provides solid support to all their customers no matter which plan you are on.
When I just switched to them, I was having a lot of problems to transfer all my sites over, but William had been personally helping me to resolve everything.
You might give them a try.
You may want to try the hostquote system:

PogiWeb 09-27-2004, 10:07 PM Yeah try using hostquote and see who responds back and do a little reasearh on them.

Have a look at SRLNet.com You can dig up my old posts about them, but basically we have been very happy there for over a year now. They have servers in several different DCs including SM/TP.
Not bargain basement prices, but the service and support is outstanding.
There are a few good reseller's services available. First try the hostquote then maybe read through the Reseller's forum section.
ldcdc 09-28-2004, 12:07 AM Better yet, start reading threads in this specific subforum and take notice which hosts are often recommended. Good thing you're not emphasising "cheap" or I would have to tell you to be wary of too good to be true offers. Wait, I just did! :)
The representatives of some quality hosts actually post here so keep your eyes open and check people's signatures. Then do searches on each host to find out what their customers have said about them: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?s=
Good luck uaziz!

With that many domains, you would do better to get yourself a fully managed dedicated server, or hire an administrator to maintain the server for you.
As for where to go, I'd suggest you take a look at www.beachcomber.net - they have an excellent reputation here, and will take good care of you :)
joshuayip 09-28-2004, 01:57 AM theplanet.com , how about that? If you want someone with the experience of running hosting company , then you could try anyone on the dedicated server forum.
Good and reliable services.... ? Hostgator seems pretty good for their services to me. I get my answers instantly from their IM support.

coight 09-28-2004, 02:01 AM Great post your in the minority, webhostingtalk usually only attracts those looking for the most features for the least amount of money. My suggestion is to make a small list of hosts and then do a search on here for feedback, go to their forums (if they have them) and see how their clients feel about the service.
PierreB 09-29-2004, 01:20 PM Well 1000 domains on one server is not suggested. You do not know how each domain will work out.
Think carefully about it.
UnifiedNet 09-29-2004, 05:18 PM My take is that they are planning for 1000 domains and that they don't actually have the clients yet?
I am sure that if you had 1000 domains ready to take over you would already be planning on a dedicated server!
Am i wrong to assume this?
uaziz 09-29-2004, 05:36 PM Having read the some of the replies...i'd like to add more on the subject.
1) We are simply scoping the business project at this point in time.
2) Yes that means we dont have 1000 + client however acquring them is not difficult based on our project plan.
3) What I am trying to figure out is what kind of a setup will be required that can not only tailor 1000+ domains but also grow as required. I dont want to go completely dedicated as maintainance of servers and upgrading software and tools is very time consuming. So as a start we dedided to have one of the companies manage the server / software (Cpanel / Plesk) or whatever...and we use an admin to run the control panel.
What I have gathered is
- The project is beyond the scope of this requirement and requires a MUST MOVE TO DEDICATED line of action. Thank you for your insights to understanding this.
- Now i am going to reword my requirements based on the above assesment.
PLAN (A) We plan to host 1000+ domains ...giving them basic diskspace about 20 MB per user a couple of email accounts and thats that. (I look at this number as a starting point and can be looked at > 3000) within 6 months. These are primarily basic individual users with simple html and maybe some php,asp requirements.
PLAN (B) About 500+ clients will be given advanced webhosting options with database (mysql) and other business required options. 500 email mailboxes and other features.
1) How many dedicated servers are required to initially manage PLAN (A). With your experience a 2.4 Ghz Unix box with 512-1024 MB ram and 80GB hard disk would be sufficient to host 5000 domain? 2000 domains? 1000 domains ? Realize that its simple hosting. Can CPanel, Ensim, Plesk handle a standalone installation and provide a good overall experience.
2) What about PLAN (B)?
3) Which WHM software is recommended for PLAN (A) and PLAN (B). In A users are basic...so user interface is important. I will require automatic registration, automatic billing and support ticketing along with all the tools that will make LIFE SIMPLE for running such a project. CPanel has its limitations...i've been reading about H-Sphere which looks like a good candidate with accounting built in.
Please share your thoughts.
Thanks again.
UnifiedNet 09-29-2004, 05:49 PM I suggest the same thing for both plan a.) and b.)
The plan to get a reseller acct to start out is not a bad idea since you are starting with no clients! Then when you out grow that plan you will def. be ready to go dedicated especially since your plans are so small!
I suggest cpanel/whm as your choice becasue of your lack of experience. It may not have the features built in but there are some great programs out there that can do this with whm. Our favorite is whmAP. The others are modern bill and clients exec. There are others but for the features you want its best kept with those three!
When you are ready to go dedicated you will probably want to have 3-4 servers around to cover your 1000 client mark. Very good thinking as well as far as hiring someone prep the dedi's for you. There a quite a few companies on the board's that can help you with this.
Good Luck
joshuayip 09-29-2004, 07:25 PM Personally, I would do a research on each of the software , from Billing to Control Panels, to Web Hosting Managers kind of software. I must say , although I thought I did a thorough research on the billing software, and settle for one and not the other, there were still good comments on the ones that I thought was not good enough.
To conclude it all, I would say , it is better to get things hands on, i.e., go for demo, read the features from the website of the application developer, and see that if it fits your needs.
Before knowing about this website , I thought cpanel was the only thing in the world that web hosting company used , and it was the best. But some how , some people in WHT, managed to convince me to look into Direct Admin. And it looks wonderful too. Plus they got great support. =). And thank you cologuys for that.
Hope this helps.
