Just like the nice polite Viagra man who spams your inbox and asks if you'd like to extend yourself with his magical product?

;)

search for superb and spam I've complained about it more than once their marketing/sales tactics are awful If I was running that place I would have fired the director of sales long ago.

They like to follow up with sale their. I asked about a server, and like 3 months later the salemen emails me and asks me to buy a server and select his name. Big $ for sales, huh?

Yep, thats spam. Contacted without your consent. Most likely from harvesting your email/MSN contact through WHT.

I would consider anyone contacting me about sales, without my consent, to be considered spam. I, as I'm sure many, divulge their contact information here and at other forums, the biggest one I get hit on with is ICQ. Now I do have potential clients IM me out of the blue, but that's why I leave my contact info, not for someone to try and sell me something. I'm sure most people choose to select their service from either WOM or following a company's reputation, and not from being PM'd IM'd, and SPAM'd, but you never know. I thought I did a good deed a few months back, donating to a charity. Low and behold, now I'm plagued with people asking, calling, anything short of showing up at my doorstep to donate. So, we'll stick with our private donations, simply because my name and # was sold apparrently to other charitable organizations..... very sad.

I have had it sagonet at least once myself.

Let me correct that. I had it from sagonet once myself, and then the same person contact me several times after that.

Jose Castro probably works on commission - That would explain his aggressive marketing techniques.

Not addressing José's recored in specific…

It is only SPAM if the vendor keeps contacting you after you have said no/don ask again or their email list does not allow you to unsubscribe.

Product follow-ups or industry specific services marketing does not constitute SPAM.

BTW, The only 'out of the blue' contact I ever got was on ICQ from Jason B at Sagonet…and he followed up on it probably 6 or more times. And first IM's of "YO!" or "Hey" weren't the most professional. I was contacted presumably because I was looking for a new dedicated and mentioned in a thread that Sago was on my short list of choices. I never sent a inquiry to them.

It was friendly enough…but by Matt's definition it would have been SPAM.

My point is that we are all quick to jump on the SPAM-wagon… but it never seems to apply when we are trying to market our own businesses. Considering our line of work, we need to be careful to toss the label around.

It is only SPAM if the vendor keeps contacting you after you have said no/don ask again or their email list does not allow you to unsubscribe. So, since I haven't "unsubscribed" from all of these Viagra, "Enlarge your this" and "Enlarge your that" advertisements, then these aren't spam?

That's nonsense. Unsolicited is unsolicited. Period.

Now, if I'd made an injuiry or shown interest in the product at some time or the other, then yeah, that might be okay, but out of the blue? No.

There must be some rules for companies in quote system but not sure if they follow

No, those most all (99.9%) of those are sent using email spoofing, mail bombing, harvesting or syntax masking (V1A GR A ). All of those are obvious SPAM tools so I did not mention them. They ARE NOT legit. The OEM software gig is also an offender.

As I stated, industry specific inquiries would not be an offender,
IMO.
