Hi,

I know it's not strictly web hosting related but thought I would try my luck here.

A friend has a CISCO 1600 and I am configuring it for him. I haven't completly finished my CCNA yet but think I know around the CISCO IOS.

Now- my friend has Dialup ISDN.

I am trying to configure int BRI 0 to connect to the dynamic IP address provided when his ISDN dials up.

Now- when I am configuring the interface- It says to state the IP for the Interface. How can i do this if it is a dynamic IP?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Try this:

config t
int bri0
ip address dhcp

That seems like a good idea- will try it.

Tho i think it will be hard to setup since from what i read you need things like SPID numbers and stuff

Phoenix(config-if)#ip address dhcp

Doh! I assumed you had done that already and needed just needed to know how to set up DHCP :).

The link auyongtc suggested should help you the rest of the way...let us know if you need additional assistance.

well it was more the SPID thing i was confused with. I see that there are settings which i need to get from my ISDN provider- yes?

Things like the SPID?

The ISDN is provided by BT (incase you are not aware in the UK BT more or less have the monopoly over ISDN/phone services apart from the cable companies)

What details will I need from them? And more importantly are they likely to provide these details?

You'll need your SPIDs and the switch type. The switch type will probably be Net3 or Net5. I think the cisco isdn swicth-type command uses basic-net3 and basic-net5.

Dude, like what Noldar told, in UK it's basically NET3 or NET5... which don't require SPID... check with BT to be sure... :)

Just ignore the SPID part (but make sure the ISDN configured for basic-net3 or basic-net5) and try it out :)

Cool. I didn't know that the Net3 and Net5 switches don't require SPIDs. I know the AT&T 5ESS doesn't require them, but the National ISDN-1 and the DMS-100 do.

Noldar, that's in US...

Here in my country, Malaysia, it's based on NET3 (like the UKs I suppose) and doesn't have any SPID... I suppose the same for UK :)
