I am trying to figure out how to update a kernel using up2date Redhat 7.2 via SSH. up2date runs perfectly under workstation environment what I mean is there is a graphical interface I can use and update a kernel is pretty easy. I wiped out the harddrive then install Redhat 7.2 as server then executed "up2date" this is what I got (just testing out using my personal machine, haven't tried it with my dedicated server yet):

I tried executing "up2date -d" or "up2date -i" "up2date -d kernel*" etc... but couldn't get kernel updated. What should be the correct command here? or up2date doesn't work at all under server environment? I know I can install KDE then execute "up2date" but KDE won't execute if CPANEL is installed! Please help!!!

ctc -- how did it go? I really love the up2dat feature, and have been very happy with it, but I am a little concerned about upgrading my kernel remotely :)?

I tested updating my kernel using up2date a few times today then updated it for my server (remotely), worked great no problems experienced what so ever!

I believe they already do if you do not buy a box set. I think it only works for 30 days then you need to pay for it, if you download it.

I better learn how to update everything manually!

hehe...MGD please...in the bottle :)

For cpanel to stop telling you to update the kernel, you have to manually compile the kernel from source, which the latest is 2.4.17 (for 2.4 kernels)

If you never compiled a kernel before, I suggest finding an old dead computer that you got laying around your house, installing cpanel etc on it (basically configuring it to an server configuration) and screw around with it, deleting stuff, breaking stuff, recompiling stuff....

It took me 7 tires to compile my first kernel :)

"ooh done...no wait..forgot that....ohh done!! :) ...oh darn forgot that...ohh done! :).....reboot...damn..it wont reboot"
