View Full Version : Reseller Setup Question, I need some input please...
HighLineHost 09-25-2004, 04:40 PM WHT,
I have a question. We have never offered reseller accounts, so i wanted to check here as there is alot of knowlage on these forums about accounts / plans / support etc.
My question is this.
For a windows 2003 host, If you were looking for a reseller account, what would you look for?
Do you look for alot of diskspace? price? Bandwidth?
Bilco105 09-26-2004, 01:07 AM You must take all the above in consideration when creating packages. If the price is to high and you get very little space then people wont buy it. If you give them alot of space with little bandwidth they wont want it. It all depends on what the person ordering needs. Try to make them all equal.
let me get some help from u...
now i need a reseller, my asking is like this:
good connection, 1000GB transfer, 2000MB disk space, $200/year
this is good for anyone i think, could u offer me?
Bilco105 09-26-2004, 11:05 AM I Know i could. :D
HighLineHost 09-26-2004, 11:07 AM Just havent seen too many windows resllers here on WHT, I see a ton of cPanle ones...
Bilco105 09-26-2004, 11:08 AM My new company will focus on windows reselling. More info will be posted shortly about this.

HighLineHost 09-26-2004, 01:20 PM So Like making a account like this woudl be good?
2GB Disk Space
100GB Transfer
Unlimtied emails
Your own name servers, ns / ns2.your-domain.com
Helm Control panel
Shared SSL
For like 40/month ? Does that seen reasonable?

HighLineHost 09-26-2004, 02:05 PM No dedicated servers atm, sold out. and we are switching over to cpanel / helm for linux / windows servers....

Please take your questioning to private messages or the advertising forums.

A 1:50 ratio is rather excessive.
I would suggest a 1:10 ratio. I would also suggest not selling 100GB transfer for 40 bucks on a shared server.

Yes I am not offering resller accounts atm. I just want to see what you all look for when signing up for a reseller account.
GordonH 09-26-2004, 04:48 PM One word: reliability.
If you can achieve that in a win 2000 environment with resellers you will keep customers.
In general Win customers are looking for mutually incompatible services:
ASP with Mysql
PHP with MS Access
Perl and PHP (neither of which run convincingly and reliably enough on windows for my liking)
If you can provide all of that reliably and in a scaleable way so you can add large numbers of customers then you have it made.
Incientally, Microsoft are hitting the hosting market hard and paying advertising and other subsidies to hosts willing to switch.
One very lareg host recently got all thier software, hardware and advertsising paid for by MS. They will be offering very cheap windows hosting (as they are only paying the bandwidth, and undercutting everyone. (This is in the UK, a market MS feel they can dominate).
I think this sort of subsidising is going to skew the market if it spreads.
HighLineHost 09-26-2004, 05:02 PM For 3 years we had all windows 2000 servers and had nothing but problems, now running windows 2003 with Helm, things have really turned around.
Thats why I wanted to look into reselling as there is alot of people out there who need a windows host and who havent had the best of luck.
GordonH, thats some good input, thanks :)
Now I am just tring to figure out , disk space, vs how much bandwidth?
(talking only shared servers)
so 2GB of diskspace with 80GB bandwidth is that good or too little?
I am not tring to tailor this for web host resellers, looking for for webmasters with their customers....
GordonH 09-26-2004, 05:10 PM My starting point is the number of domains I want to run from each server and work back from that.
e.g. 40 resellers with 5 domains each @ [correct accountancy use of the at sign!] $9 per month = $360 per month
Work back from this to take account of cc processing and support costs and server costs, it will give a profit margin of X amount.
Iknow I aonly have 200 domains to worry about and noone can pack a thousand into one account.
Its calculations like that which will make your service viable and controllable.
