View Full Version : VPS - ServInt, VPSColo, Dinix. Need comments.
seekhosting 09-24-2004, 09:47 PM Hi,
Now, I will focus on the following VPS providers:
* ServInt,
* VPSColo and
* Dinix
Could anyone provide any comments of the above VPS providers in terms of:
1. Network reliability,
2. Server reliability,
3. Support
Thanks and best regards
rasputinj 09-24-2004, 09:51 PM I can comment on 2 of them
Dinix,
Great network Internap, great support, servers seemed reliable. I had some load issues on my VPS, but they did increase RAM on the machines right before I left and it seemed to perform better.
VPSColo,
Network seems good I am with Peer1, I also know they have liquidweb, and a couple more. Servers seem well built, the service is outstanding with VPSColo.
I have been with VPSColo for 8 months now, I have had solid uptimes
Mac98 09-24-2004, 10:05 PM I know my share about VPS's and would recommend without a doubt PowerVPS. I have a VPS with them, Servint, Dinix(bad), JVDS, and Rackforce. Hands down PowerVPS is the best. No comparison none what so ever. I believe they have new ownership based on an email I got from Gary(PowerVPS's former owner). Good luck.
kb9tyc 09-24-2004, 10:26 PM I have been with Servint one year now.
1. I have been unable to connect to my VPS because of network problems twice early this year. I was given a refund per the SLA without asking. Other than that the network has been solid.
2. Over the year I have had the host machine I am on upgraded to a faster processor with 15K drives. The only time they bring it down is for kernel patches. One drive failed while I was on the old machine and they replaced it right away. If there is a failure that comprimises the host machine they move all the VPS's onto different machines until they get the problem solved. I have never had a problem with my VPS being slow to respond. The maximum burstable ram, disk space, and transfer has been increased in the year I have been there.
3. I have only used email support. When I got my VPS I spent a couple of days breaking things and they happily fixed whatever it was I did. I have never had a response time of over 10 minutes. The NOC is knowlegable and if they don't know the answer they will contact who ever they need to get the issue resolved. The only time I have encountered this is with a cPanel issue.
JHServers 09-24-2004, 10:35 PM I agree, servint is quite the provider. We've recently decided to base all of our operations at servint.
dsotmoon 09-24-2004, 10:56 PM I have been with Dinix and vpscolo and between the two I would recommend vpscolo.com handsdown, dinix at the time had VERY fast support but the server I was on was oversold, even admitted to by Dinix and caused many problems on the server, mostly RAM related, since moving to vpscolo.com things have been much better, the support is much more personal but I have also had some RAM related issues, due to a very active forum but vpscolo has provided the the smoothest ride and most proactive support :D
Mac98 09-24-2004, 11:08 PM Servint is good overall at the end of the day Powervps will save you money. Specials on packages each month and now from recent posts I see Defender Hosting owns them. Quite a powerhouse when the two combine. Network is much better than Servint. I have visited both and it is like comparing a Ford Escort to a Escalade for real.
I was with dinix for about 4 months.. server would not respond often. RAM usage seemed to be the issue (other nodes taking it down) I upgraded to the next tier and it was only worse.
Moved to Servint about 3 weeks ago, server is amazingly fast, network is fast, and support is very helpful and fast too. :) Very pleased so far.

You forget servint has been around since 1995 which is more than powervps can say. Also servint has a reputation for the superior management offered by them, not to mention their pricing is still very competitive.

DefenderHosting does look very nice and they do have a nice network. Servint however has done wonders for me though, their support is there when I need it. The network performance has been great, as well as the network reliability. Also, if you didn't like the GNAPS network that Servint used previously, you're going to like what's going on there. ;)
gilbert 09-25-2004, 01:05 AM all i do is charge it to my credit card in case of a need for a chargeback other than that man you should do your homework and take your time talking to the folks running these companies, yoll have fun doing it too :) ........ good luck and may the force be with you :)
Rusky 09-25-2004, 05:31 AM I am with VPS Colo and service is great.
kb9tyc 09-25-2004, 05:34 AM Did anyone read the original post? He was looking for specific answers.
swijaya0101 09-25-2004, 05:59 AM i used to have servint vps.
sales claimed their fully managed and pro-active but they dont.
once they told me it was used for spamming, then i asked their noc to secure it. they said it was done. the following week they turned off the VPS and said the VPS is used for spamming again. They accused me of turning off their security setting.
ok fine. then i asked them to secure it again, and i remove all my domains and used the server for nameserver only. 2 weeks later they said it was used for spamming again.
so they are not pro-actively fully managed. it's only sales ads.
if they told me earlier, i will engage a server administrator like what i did to my servers.
HasGreatDane 09-25-2004, 06:26 AM I've had my VPS with Dinix for a couple of months. Haven't noticed any problems with their network or the server; both have been stable and fast. Their support is also good though I must admit I've been spoiled by Bluewho's 5-minute response time so when I first had to wait for almost an hour I was getting impatient. But I realised I was being unfair; their response time is really fine and the case I mentioned was not an emergency. Their support answers are always very professional and helpful; they even helped me with things that were really not their responsibility. Overall, a very nice experience so far; I can honestly recommend a Dinix VPS to anybody.
GDO
