I was actually very suprised by the amount of windows people have open. I work with my brother doing webhosting, and damn, I am lucky to have less than 15 windows at once. I usually have roughy 10 IE windows open, I simply open it too much to close constently, and I have 3 windows for ICQ, 1 for Namo 4.0 and 1 for Namo 5.0, one more for IE 5.5, one for NS 4.76, one for NS 6.01, one for The Bat and two for Edit Plus. Also an occasional one or two for NotePad, but when it comes to memory, Notepad is like, nothing :-).. I use Win ME, but with most of my Ie windows open, there hasnt been any affect.

So the least of 20 in the all and all.. No wonder I need to reboot so often. Just got upgraded to 256MB RAM, but still think that my old 96MB RAM took care of memory much, much better. Maybe that is where Win ME comes in..

Usually it bounces around 10-20 on the desktop. This poor old 366mhz laptop isn't up to that kind of 'window abuse'

Damn! 80-90?! 20 is too much for me. On a regular basis I would have 9-10 open but I minimize alot of my windows down into my system tray.

Maximum open windows for me is about 15 with 1280x1024 19" and 512RAM. (I use only one monitor :stickout )

normally i have 12 to 18 windows open but since i have 14" monitor and 800 x 600 res. the scroll bars comes after 11-12 windows and it becomes really annoying, so I have to close all these windows. Anyway, after opening 16-18 windows internet explorer crashes on my (alpachino) computer which only have 128 mb ram. but this way it works fine with my 256 mb ram 1 GGGGhz computer (desperado).

Mahinder, that is hilarious. You have names for your computers! I never have that many windows opening. Usually I have around 5 windows open. That doesn't mean they are open either. All of them are minimized. I currently have 33 running components right now. That may be only a sixth of how many components you have running on your computers. I have a Pentium 3 Processor... 933 Megahertz. 60.0 Gigabyte Hard Drive. It has all the rest of the features. I guess my computer's name is "Slow."

:) I don't use Windows, so taskbar problem is not an issue. I use Mandrake Linux with KDE at 1600x1200. I open at least ten virtual desktops, so if I had 80 open there is about 8 windows average on each desktop, it is still manageable, especially with 1600x1200 res, it still leaves out some empty spaces on most desktops. Fortunately for me, the taskbar can be set to display only the windows on current desktop, it would be a hell if it displays all windows on all desktop.

What application I was running? Some web sites, image editor, staroffice, email, but 60% of them were probably old boring terminals. I used to open lots of them when I'm coding, opening a lot of terminal saves me a lot of keystroke and considerable amount of time. And some them being used for monitoring my servers.

Now that I'm just rebooting, the number is down to about 20 :)

Well it is not a bad idea naming computers. If you don't name them, you will need to call them using their IP address :)

I average around 15 open windows...

I average 20-30... mostly terminals, and web browsers... Although my audio apps take up a number of them.

I usually have around 25 or so windows open at a time. Half of them just being browser windows. Any more than that and my computer will just die.

I just opened 52.. then windows wouldn't allow me to open anymore..

I try to stick to only one line in the Windows XP taskbar. I don't really know how many that is, but around 15 or 20. Usually around 10.

My browser has a 100 window limit (I can change that setting though) Most i ever had was 12 open i tihnk @ once....

to bad windows doesnt have a decent multiple desktops option.

- 1 or 2 konsole windows each holding 5 or 6 shell sessions
- 1 mozilla with 10 or so tabs (still counts as one)
- 1 quanta (editor with 20 -30 files in tabs)
- Windows (with 1 or 2 IE windows opened , still counts as only one)
