I am not a server guru, nor do I pretend to be one. I am a business owner that needs reliable dedicated hosting. I currently host with NYI, and it seems like we are re-booting the server more than it is running. My website is http://www.classadrivers.com We receive about 1500 unique visitors a day and process on average 135 driver applications through our sql driven database each day.

I want to know who has a good dedicated hosting package in the $250 per month range. I am currently paying $200 per month on NYI and am completely dis-satisfied. I have called their office several times to get information just to have them tell me that I need to work through 3mediaweb.com (the guys that set me up with NYI) because they are NYI's customer, not me. I'm the one paying the bill, but I am not the customer? Don't get me wrong, 3mediaweb.com is awesome. I just have problems with having to re-boot my server 5 times in a 30 day period. This is no exaggeration.

I would like to here from individuals who are paying for hosting for their sites, and not a bunch of sales pitch from the system admins running through this board.

I take that back, I will entertain solicitations, but I would like some third party opinions of the hosting services available. Can anyone help?

Contact Mike @ webauthorities.com 540-381-5315. He will get you set up with a good server, fast redundant connections. I have been with him for a couple of years now and I have no major complaints.

Might want to wait until after they move data centers (tomorrow), but once they are settled and accepting orders again.. I'd say you have a 100% chance of being completely satisfied. I've been a client since February 2001 and their service is the best I have ever experienced in this industry.

Precise, Elena, and Apache,

Thanks for the input. I have visited all three web sites and have reviewed what each has to offer. I will talk to my server guy and have him review the information as well.

Have any of you had any experiences with NYI.net? We had to move our site to a new server of theirs and inside of 2 days, our site was down again. NYI claims it is the software we installed on the server, and 3mediaweb.com claims it is the hardware. Knowing how hard 3mediaweb.com works to take care of any issues and the customer service they provide, I am going to have to lean toward the bad hardware issue.

Right now, I am leaning toward Webauthorities Dedicated 2 plan, but I would like some more input from other individuals using them as a hosting solution.

Anyone know how to get them to waive the set-up fee :stickout ?

We've had a managed dedicated server with QWK.Net (http://qwk.net) for about a year, always someone there on those rare occasions when we have a problem. Most trouble-free hosting in 5 years and 8 hosts. Like you, we need the server for one resource-intensive website, not a hosting business.

You might be happier buying a managed contract and dealing directly with a host, instead of going through a third-party like 3mediaweb.com as you seem to be doing now.

I can't get them to waive it and I already have a server. So, if you can get him to waive it, tell me how! ;)

I suggest searching the forums for people's reviews of these comapnies.

If you are looking for what are generally regarded as the most reliable companies, look at rackspace.com and dialtone.com

On Webauthorities Specials page it says they will waive the setup fee if you pay 6 months in advance. Not sure if that applies to their normal prices or not.

Yes, if you pay 6 months in advance, the setup fee is waved.

Mike,

I had my server guy give you a call yesterday. He said that he woke you up, but you were still very personable. He says that you are a re-seller of rack type space and thought that you had a good backbone for your system. He is going to do some further investigation of all of our options and present his recommendations to me later next week. I believe that he is looking for someone that can give much more technical support should we need it. From what he gathered, re-boots would be no problem, but working with you guys would ad another layer in terms of technical support. I’m not so sure that this is a good thing. Maybe you would care to comment on this. Like I said when I started this thread, I don’t know servers. I just know that I need reliable, competitively priced hosting with good 24/7 technical support should we need it. It may not seem like it, but the driver recruiting business for the transportation industry is very competitive.

I will say this for webauthorities.com, I have searched these forums extensively and have not found one posting complaining about the reliability of the servers. I have seen some minor complaints about tech support, but outside of this, it seems like a good service.

Mike (my server guy) says that we get quite a bit of traffic (comparatively speaking) and that we would eat up 40GB of bandwidth each month easily. Looks like the dedicated #1 or the dedicated #2 would handle us pretty easily.

If you get the opportunity, and want to talk to me about your service, I can be reached at 1-888-830-2326.

Thanks to all who have replied, and thanks in advance to all who will reply, :homer:
