View Full Version : Free .info at 1and1
fewcoin 09-23-2004, 10:50 PM | Seems 1and1 are now offering 25 free .info's

4solutions 09-24-2004, 01:18 AM You know I saw that fewcoin... and I have just a few domains with 1and1 because of their great prices. But I can't recommend them yet...
I really don't like their customer interface. And there seems to be a big delay between when I order a domain and when I can actually start managing it. On the other hand, they have done everything that they said they would. They charged me just what they said they would everytime and they have been very good in communicating with me so far.
But because I have heard so many rumors about 1and1, until I can successfully transfer out a domain name, I guess I will still have this feeling of "If it sounds too good to be true..."
Dotster, on the other hand, I've dealt with for many years. And while they're not perfect, they have been pretty honest with me. (And at the prices they charge they should be ;) ) But since they're offering the same 25 free .info names, I would probably recommend them over 1and1 at this point. |
LittleStone 09-24-2004, 04:24 AM | 4solutions, which one are you using? 1and1.com or 1and1.co.uk?
I'm in the process of transferring a .com domain away from 1and1.com to namecheap.com. I hope that I don't have to send any fax. I will come back and post no matter whether it goes through smoothly. If things go well, I will take advantage of this .info offer. |

Please let us know how the transfer goes, LittleStone. ;) |
fewcoin 09-24-2004, 12:07 PM Hi 4solutions,
Exactly, I have a few domains with them too, and registered those in a state of doubt. I'm thinking of trying a transfer from 1and1. Now, I tried transferring a domain TO them and it was a nightmare. Had to fill out a fax form and tried their fax number for a whole day, (kept getting a number disconnected voice message). I finally gave up and called them with no resolution.
Another disturbing thing is, they have no option to register/ renew for multiple years. In fact, they have no way to renew at all. At least I couldn't find it.
The only reason I tried them at all was because their parent registry is large and supposedly reputable.

Does anyone know what they are charging to renew names? I know it is 5.99 to register, is renewals the same? |
shimon 09-25-2004, 02:13 PM nice for anyone which need temp domains or want to sell......... |
vehowave 09-25-2004, 06:11 PM I don't like 1and1. Their user system isn't very good and their customer service is subpar as well =/ Despite the free domains ... I wouldn't recommend them. |
Xerservers 09-25-2004, 07:04 PM why would they just give it for free? and why dont they just give out .com if its like that lol |
LittleStone 09-26-2004, 02:15 AM 1and1 does not have privacy guard neither. And their DNS system isn't the easiest to deal with. So be prepared.
(I'm still waiting for my .com to be transferred away...)
It's still not too bad if you have those 3 years free hosting package. |
dmaven 09-26-2004, 02:37 AM If the price is free I would not be overly concerned. After the 60 days just move the name away to your preferred registrar |

LittleStone 09-29-2004, 08:51 PM After waiting for 5 days, the transfer of my .com domain from 1and1.com to namecheap is completed without a problem. 1and1.com didn't ask me to fax anything to them. The only annoying thing is waiting for that 5 days.
So I suppose 1and1.com is following the similar procedure if you want transfer away. |
4solutions 09-29-2004, 09:11 PM Thanks for the feedback, LittleStone. I was wondering how your transfer was going. ;) |
