View Full Version : Tricky postal mail from droa.com
FunkyFrog 09-23-2004, 10:11 PM | Today I got in the mail a "Domain Expiration Notice" from a company called " Domain Registry of America", warning that my domain is set to expire in a few months and that the domain must be renewed in order to retain rights to it. Below this there is what looks like a bill for renewal @ $25 per year, $40 for 2 years...etc.
I am not registered through this service. I am a domain reseller and I renew my domain for less than $8 per year so I read it carefully when I got it.
If anyone gets mail like this, don't pay for it! Read it carefully and you will see that they are trying to trick you into transferring to their services. |
4solutions 09-23-2004, 10:25 PM Thank you for the heads-up, alrock. ;)
DROA is a known problem to most of us here... but it nevers hurts to get another warning about these scammers.
They must have cut down whole forests to put out the volume of mail they do. |
FunkyFrog 09-24-2004, 12:47 AM | If this is a regular stunt they pull I am surprised I have never gotten one before, since I have had domains registered to me for six years.
It's simply unbelievable what some companies will pull just to get business. Totally unethical. |

All the court made them do is change their wording. The old letters they sent out were very scary! Almost made you think that you WOULD lose your domain without send them the renewal fee. If you read the "new style" letter www.droa.info you will see that they have toned it down. Still scammers IMHO. |
dmaven 09-25-2004, 01:18 PM I hear the owner of droa drives a lamborghini supposedly with the license plate having a variation of scammer. Do not know if the license plate aspect is true but they must be making decent money to afford that kind of car.
