I'm just curious how it's done?.. Does the billing software automaticly calculate the correct ammount?

Most companies bill in US Dollars. If you live outside of the US and have a Visa/MC credit card - there's no problem.

What about checks?

If you live in the US, chances are your bank will only cash international "checks" if they are in the form of a US Postal Money Order or a check drawn from a bank in the US.

Western Union Money Orders are drawn from a US bank and you can get them all over the world.

I wouldn't suggest billing an overseas client with a check. Why?

1. Unless you do not activate or perform the service until the check arrives you are doing something without guaranteed payment.
2. If they send the check and it bounces, it is hard to follow-up on.
2. It is hard to take legal action of you never receive the check.

If they insist on paying by cheque, I would ask for a credit card number as insurance and make sure that you have in writing "If they check does not arrive by "XXXX date" then I will bill your credit card.

Just a thought for you
:)

Actually, mailed payments are much more secure than credit card payments. You can't do a chargeback on a check. :)

You should, however, NEVER EVER setup an account or provide service until the check clears the bank. That way you are gauranteed payment...no matter what.

True! But I think there is more risk involved, especially on an overseas level.

If you wait until the check clears - there is ZERO risk. NONE.

Unless you accidently get really drunk and send it back to him as a joke...

That's pretty unlikely though, huh?
