Hey, me and a mate are looking to start a VPS service, but we need to find a IRC allowed datacenter in the US. If you know one please post it here.

Thanks
Terry

It looks like someone revived that thread after it had been dead for a year or so

I highly recommend Staminus :stickout:
at least you get decent support and reboots when you need them and they'll never unplug you no matter how much you get dd0sed. you can't expect everything for $99. If you think they are not meeting your expectations then you should consider upping your budget a bit....

fdcservers.net has IRC on a seperate network, have not herd of too many complaints regarding the IRC in the last few months.

I really don't trust FDC servers, I've heard a lot of horror stories from that organization. Many of which were related to management and employees, they really seem immature when it comes to business.

No direct experience here though, so take anything I say about FDC with a grain of salt. Countless threads are my only source of input on them.

FDC had terminated and formated a box of ours when I was working for pitbullshells. It took 2 days to get the answer why it was down. We then asked why it was taken down, they said due to ddos botnet of 5k, however the box was limited to 1k connections as it was just use for bnc/eggdrop no ircd. They then said something in the terms "we dont have time to contact you upon abuse report" and that was the end of it.

Matt had some problems with the firewalls acting up and dropping the lines over at staminus. 'Cuz of this, for a period of about a week they had lots of timeouts and such. Since then though, Matt went down to LA and rebuilt both of the Kernels and OS's on the boxes, and have been solid for the past week (before they usually died at least once a day).

He's always adding new filters in place, new pattern matches, etc. Maybe he isn't lightening quick on responces, but he works his best and provides a excellent service.

If $100 USD/mo is a little over your budget, though, check out sagonet. I had a box with them, and for the most part was solid (had port problems that me nor the techs could fully solve it seemed). They don't provide a firewall without you paying for one though. Because of this, if you take enough DOS attacks, they'll do what they can to help, and just NULL what they can't. Sago's support is very quick and provides a solid network and hardware setup.

Actually it started 14 months ago, and then someone revived it instead of making a new one. you jumped on the bandwagon to express your problems with staminus, which doesnt make your complaint against them less valid.

matrixnet: i suggest staminus for TRUE 'cheap' irc hosting.
sagonet may host your irc apps but they do not speciailize in it, so they will not protect you too much when it comes to ddos.
FDC also doesnt care too much about keeping your stuff alive, they do nullroute but its asif they do you a favour each time some ddos happens.
Staminus on the other hand will filter, nullroute, change routes to lower pings.... basicly do everything to keep you happy - just need to be in close contact with matt (toro). for $99/m - thats alot.

Staminus rocks, as i told matt the other day. Staminus is the new hot spot for irc hosting. They're opening a new datacenter soon with mass connectivity, and there was talk of peering. Ontop of the auto-null routing, multiple backbones, excellent support, automatic re-routing, did i mention the support?

I've got a dual p3 and a p4 there, there has yet been a time when i was unable to connect to my box. The only complaints i ever hear is when the irc routes get ddosed. So, if you're looking to have a box that you can ALWAYS get to, even when attacks are going on (regardless of who they're directed at). You should get a box at staminus =)

On his page theres only 1 p4 free, but i believe there were more p4 2.8's arriving this week so you may want to shoot him an email if you werent looking to get a celeron or a 2.4.

p.s. the only irc complains i ever hear are about "timeouts", i bet ya 90% of them are on psybnc which ive noticed goes haywire inbetween the time the attack starts and the time the attacks gets nulled. regular "BNC" works fine. BitchX pwnz.
