View Full Version : Cobalt Wholesale Prices
scottlaw 11-17-2000, 04:06 AM Can anyone who has an Ingram Micro of Tech Data account tell me what the pricing is for Cobalt servers? I am trying to decide if buying some from them is worth going through the steps to setup an account.
Also, if anyone knows any other places to buy Cobalt's at a good price let me know.

buzzyd 11-17-2000, 09:17 AM Hi,
I had the list and the mark up is pretty lame the following is going on memory as it was about a week ago I last checked so forgive me if I am slightly out.
Raq2 basic: £550 trade End user: £600
Raq3 basic: £865 trade End user: £1095
Raq4 I can't remeber but it was about £300 in it for the retailer
It is one of the reasons our company has gone into producing it's own version see below.
Basic Model
Duron 600, 128Mb, 2 x 10GB, 1U Preconfigured with
Slackware, Apache, POP, FTP, SSI, PHP, SSL, MySQL, Frontpage and webmin (a web based admin package) price is a lot less than a raq3 and a lot more powerful. Our top of the range version based on the 1.1GHz Athlon is very powerful but comes in at around £2000 cheaper than a top of the range Raq4 450 cobalt and you ain't limited to 200 accounts.
If you are interested in these give me your details and I will pass you our price list. Unfortunately I don't have the cobalt price list to hand but when I get it again I can forward that to you too.

Buzzyd, please read the forum rules posted at the top of each forum (first message). Although the first part of your post is helpful, you are not allowed to post the second half. Keep this limited to the Advertsing Forum please (the above quote belongs there not here.
cbaker17 11-17-2000, 10:52 AM I was just curious I wonder if it would be possible to get a cobalt restore cd, and load it on any linux box???? or is there a way to get the cobalt os w/ control panel on any linux box....
webfors 11-17-2000, 11:09 AM I doubt it. I'm sure they thought of that since the only real benefit of the cobalt is the cp/os. The hardware is pretty lame for the price your paying. They're making a killing on these raqs.

You can buy the cobalt OS cd... Usually used to restore a crapped RAQ, it could possibly be installed on any type of computer (although not legal)... Thre would be some kind of tweaking to be done, unless your own server also has a reset for the root password and a display, etc on it.
DaveC# 11-18-2000, 09:55 AM Seeing as this is a little UK centric I'd thought I'd share:
http://www.sun.com/servers/images/e5S_b-c.jpg
Sun Ultra 5
360-MHz UltraSPARC-IIi
256 Meg Ram
9.1 GB, 3.5-in. Enhanced IDE HDD, 7200 rpm

Prices like these are not unusual in the UK now :)
