Ahoy compatriots! I just read over at the offers forum that 8host is now a rotting corpse in the graveyard of hosts. My question is what happened? Based on their quality website design, they did have good service.
Or did I miss something?

I have no idea, I think they got off on the wrong foot. Since
a first impression means everything ( for a lot of people )
maybe they just decided it wasn't worth it.

My guess, the credit card fraud that was the reason they switched to paypal and the demand that was beyond their capabilities (messed things up, completely).

Quality website design?
They got their design ideas from *****. The main basis / colour scheme of their design originates from *****, and they copied most of the text...

The demand MUST have been high since they were offering an insane amount of b/w and disk space. I suppose they were playing the number game because even with rackshack servers its not possible to fit that in their pricing plan.

From 8Host
Affective within a month, '8HOST' will be discontinuing its web hosting service.
'8HOST' is officially no longer operational, however all accounts will remain active until one month from this notice (16th February 2002).
For people who have paid beyond this date, refunds will be given for the remainder. If '8HOST' need to contact you, '8HOST' will contact you via your 'PayPal' e-mail address.
'8HOST' will follow the terms of service through and provide the web hosting service to present customers for 1 (one) calendar month longer.
Well... It's reassuring to know that some hosts still have souls...:)
May hosts that have bad CSupport burn in

This one seems tp be excellent...
Just a few thoughts about my experiences with 8host and its closure.
Like many other people who signed up for that $8.99 per month (4GB diskspace) account just a couple of weeks ago, I too was disappointed that this had to happen. Some webhosting firms that don't play the game eventually go under. That's perfectly understandable.
Then comes the shock. On Jan 17 PayPal sent me a message saying that 8host had just refunded me $76 for 11 months of unused hosting when I only paid $8.99 in the first place. Before I knew it, 8host was accusing me of having stolen the $76 and if I didn't repay within the next 15 minutes they'd take legal actions against me and have my credit card suspended.
And to make things worse, my email account this message was sent to was down for almost an entire week (no thanks to another webhost, whose name I shall refrain from exposing). I had 5 messages or so with the same warning. I was only able to repay them today when I (after a very complicated procedure) managed to check my mail.
Surely companies like these should realize that there is a possibility that email recipients sometimes aren't able to check their mail so frequently. Furthermore, it was their mistake in the first place -- shouldn't they realize that the responsibility falls on their shoulders? How can they so blatantly say that I've stolen, especially when I wasn't even aware that something like that had happened?
Since 8Host is closing down, it probably won't be affected by a tarnished reputation. But just to get my side of the story out.
I'm just wondering if anyone has been similarly threatened by 8host.
