Yes i know i could have search for this info ;)
But 2 things i have heared some things about managed.com AFTER i place my order for 4 servers, (paid 2 months for all)
Its been 24 hours so i call and get the 'hold game' for about 15 mins. But any way is this company that bad? Also who owns them? The Planet?

They are not owned by the planet, in general they got off to a shaky start with some really poor uptime and poor terms and conditions meaning they offered servers to and were happy to host warez, etc.....

They fixed all that (maybe, I see they offer eggdrop/irc servers now) and seem to be pretty okay.

They are not perfect but their uptime is good and the support is okay but nothing special.

But the morale to this is simple, dont expect the earth for the money your paying, their offering p4 servers for under $100 and budget at $55.

If your looking for a reasonable dedicated with good uptime, great pricing and so so service then managed are good.

But I re-iterate again, you get what you pay for so dont expect the earth, having some knowledge of dedicated servers will help you greatly.

Yes, i know that but when opening a new company you don't have the 'world' to spend on servers.

We all had to start somewhere, all I am saying is that dont come back complaining when your server goes down and they take 5 hours to fix it.

Nt being nasty to you, but when opening a company you need to consider what kind of impression your giving out.

If its that important go with one of these:

ev1servers.net (best)
servermatrix.com
dedicatednow.com
serverbeach.com
nocster.com
managed.com
tomsyer.net
1and1.com (worst)

What do you notice starting from best at the top and working down to worst? Yup the price, the cheaper you go the more risks you take.

Right i see, i will see some of the other sites, but now i am with them for two months. I am liking servermatrix.com......

Servermatrix is a good choice I have a couple of servers there myself, support can be slow sometimes but quality of server and network is 1st class.

for my absolute security I use ev1, nobody beats there uptime and service, the only drawback and headsurfer makes no bones about it, they are unmanaged, you break it you fix it, or they charge you.

It as not so long ago they had a fire outside the offices and you should have seen the operation that swung into force to prevent any outages or downtime, thats what impressed me with them especially after that. There were mobile generators and all sorts on site within the hour.

But then again it comes back to price, and thats what your paying for at the end of the day, that kind of service.

I have had my problems with them as others will no doubt say, but you cant fault the network unless your really unlucky.

true true, i might look into ev1 but need to get going, i think that i will stay for 2 months then move. yes this might make me lose some people but, i will not lose them if i have every thing ready to go when i closed the others.

You should look into layeredtech.com as well

about managed.com and this is my own opinion because my experience with them: even if they give me 10 servers for free ( i know it will never happen) i wont use them for webhosting service.
Maybe others are happy with managed.com but i still see nightmares when i am sleeping because them.

managed is actually workign out very nicely for us. We don't need much support, so we don't have to worry about never getting answers. We also don't have much downtime surprisingly compared to what everyone else says, so i would say go for them if you don't need much support :).

Managed.com is Managed.com, just as Rackspace is Rackspace.

You get what you pay for, and that is clearly evident in the dedicated server "industry".

Yeah..i didn't have much downtime too till they started to unplugged my server without nitification, and after 20 hours finally we got a respons telling we violate bw usage and we have to pay $10 to re-activate the server. Then we had to wait another 20 hours the tech get instruction from billing department to re-activate the server and the story take more than 48 hours to get the server up again. Then you check the server and you can't understand why and how ur server coud use all that bw they show you in a stupid graph..so trying to understand you have your server unplugged again and asked for $10, and the story take another 48 hours or more, then you have your server up for 3 days and unplugged again and asked for upgrade to 100 Mbps for +$300/month for the same server.
So you decide to move to another dc and after 1 month with your new provider you descover your server never go over 1 Mbps.
Strange, no ?!!!!

Totaly AGREE with you, as for right now my server is down, two emails to support asking why is offline or if it's a problem with network but not respond. I think I will get respond as you said, another 20 hours and for phone support it sucks.

Right now I will start looking for a new home but not to spend too much since I'm starting with my website.

I get 2 120 GB Drives with 1200MB Pent IV 2.8 and 8 IPS = $125 not including Cpanel Lic. = 19/M

DO A CHARGEBACK AND GET OUT OF MANAGED.COM RIGHT AWAY, BEFORE YOU COME BACK HERE AND REGRET LIKE 100s OF OTHERS!!

If your server goes down, it takes days to get it reboot where ev1, servermatrix etc do it in less than 15 minutes.

Managed.com = death to your hosting business!!

MOVE OUT, DONT CRY LATER THAT NO ONE HAD WARNED YOU!! DO A CHARGEBACK AND MOVE OUT RIGHT AWAY, DONT GIVE THEM EVEN A SLIGHT CHANCE, COS THEY WILL DO THEIR BEST TO PISS YOU OFF AS MUCH AS THEY CAN!!

This is our 7th month running with them, and so far no problems but again I dont need support, In fact I am happy........ I do all the maitenance on the server myself, did not even need to contact support for the last 4 months!

Had approx around 1.6 hrs of network outages during these 7 months, which is guess is okay, considering the price that I am paying.

My only suggestion is that if you opt for managed.com

Pay via paypal, and do a shutdown -r now after you get a server to make sure that your server does a proper soft reboot, so that you can minimize sending support tickets for reboot and do it yourself.

We rent a dedicated server from Managed for remote backup only. It's been fine for about two months now (particularly because we have never needed to contact their support). After reading and experiencing ourselves today how unresponsive the support is, we're evaluating for alternatives. What would people recommend for a datacenter that offers economical dedicated server with lots of data transfer (around 900-1000 GB/mo), lots of disk space (2x80 or 2x120 IDE), 1gig of RAM. Support need not be premium (under 30 min) but need to be more responsive and caring than Managed.

When i was with them and such thing happend to me the first message i receive from them after 18 hours said: " dear customer, your server was unplugged for security reason."
The second message after 20 hours:" dear customer: your server could be unplugged for security reason" and after 48 hours: "dear customer, your server was unplugged for bw violation" and asked me $10 to re-activate my server while many of my customers asked me hundreds $ refund and many other potential clients went away.
I hope you won't have similar experience.

I dont think so.. other users experiencing the same thing ( http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=323460&perpage=15&highlight=managed&pagenumber=2 ).. it seems to be a local network problem...

Maybe the dc was unplugged for security reason.
All is possible with managed.com

i read from some other posters that their servers at managed.com are down right now. is there something up right at the moment perhaps?

i've been with managed for a few months. generally quite happy. one time our server crashed and it did take a while to get restarted but it wasn't too bad.

once or twice their network has also had problems, but that normally doesn't last long.

however for the last 12 hours our server has been down and we haven't heard a single thing from them in response to our queries. any ideas on what might be happening? i'm not posting to bad-mouth them or anything, i'm just really keen to find out whats going on - if i'm not the only one then maybe its more than just our server having crashed?

server is finally back up again! yeah .... in going with managed.com i guess i new that you get what you pay for, and overall its been alright. it would just be nice if they could be a bit more informative. how hard would some automated reply 'our network is having problems - we're working on it' have been for example? surely wouldn't add to their overall costs.
