Hi,

I was just wondering what sought of software other people use to stress test their systems before implementation of the servers. Either wise known as part of the Burn-in stage.

Also the operating systems will be Fedora Core 1 & 2, CentOS or Freebsd.

Thanks

1. if you lease your servers from another company, there should be no reason to stress test the server., not to mention that you would not have access to do a burn in.

2. if you are stress testing your own servers, there a numerous programs out there. i think one is called load tester, not sure though.

3. if you are trying to stress test/load test your web application, you can use a service like Gomez.com, they record the transaction for your web app, then reproduce it from nodes all over the world and/or dialup/dsl accounts all over the world. then you can get detailed reports of how your web app is performing, as well as reports of which ISP's have performance issues.

options 2 & 3 may be bandwidth intensive so you'd want to talk with your ISP prior to, to make sure it won't overload their network

I kindly disagree. If your provider doesn't have sense enough to burn in a new machine, you should do it yourself. I'm not sure how you would go about burning in the *nix world. Windows you would like to setup a backup routine scheduled task to run over and over for a couple of days. This will max the thing out nicely.

Last thing you want to do is upload a bunch of important stuff to a 'green' machine (wow, I just made that up) and drive lots of traffic to it, only to have a naging hardware issue develop.
