Hi again. I thought this would be a good place to post since I received a lot of good offers/information with my ANz post.

This is a bit different though.

I am looking for a dedicated server and it pretty much has to be located in Chicago. It has to be on a good network for low pings (Chicago Equinix seems to be a great example).

It's going to be a game server box, but it's only going to have 1 private Counter-Strike server on it. I'm sick of overloaded boxes, so I've decided to try this route.

A Linux server (RH9, RHE, fedora.. anything that works well with a CS game server). A fairly good processor would be nice. Doesn't need too much RAM.. 512MB would be pretty nice. Doesn't need a large HDD. I don't need cPanel and all that crap. I'm not sure how much bandwidth it's going to use. I've ran game servers on boxes before, I just haven't paid attention to how much bandwidth they consume. It can't be too much since the game is very old. :)

I'm hoping to spend around $70/month, lower is better but the max I can spend is probably $80/month

If you have any questions or anything, you can post here or PM me.

Thanks a lot guys.

Hi,
your requirements are very high for the price you are willing to pay. Even FDC is not cheap enough for you.

The only provider that is near your price range would be **********.net. They are in St-Louis (this is near Chicago if I am not mistaken) in the Inflow Datacenter but from what I hear, support is not very good.

I think you should take that 70-80$ and buy a game server from a reputable company like Gamedaemons.

Good luck.

GameDaemons used to be good.. a few years ago. They went downhill. Every gaming company goes down hill so I've given up on them.

Though the site is blocked on these forums, I believe I know what company you're talking about. I got a server from them a year or so ago and it was alright, but we had some problems with people that had Comcast. They would route through Texas or California before going to St. Louis

I know I can get a decent server in Chicago in Equinix for $99/month with a lot better specs than what I'm asking, I just can't afford that much.

PM also wornt work. You can say www.c-o-m-p-a-n-y.com if you want to show the company name to others. But it is unethical thing. There may be enough reasons for the block.

I would suggest you a VPS solution from www.steadfastnetworks.com. They are in Chicago, Equinix. Your budget is low for a dedicated server.

I don't really want to do a VPS because it kind of defeats the purpose of not going with gamedaemons, but thank you for the suggestion.

I'm thinking of going with layeredtech or tomsyer on their AMD XP 2400 but I don't know if I can get it in ThePlanet DC. I ping well to ThePlanet, but I ping about double that to Savvis.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a "cheap" dedicated servers in other Midwest datacenters? I just need good ping/routing from Minnesota, basically. :-)

Thanks.

Who offers equinix servers for $99.00? I have been looking for equinix server for some time. Server central seems to be pretty expenssive? who else is out there?

It's hard for me to explain, but VPS defeats the purpose because I need a clean server.

Server Central has servers for $149\month in Equinix. Never herd anything back about ServerCentral. Go to ServerCentral.net
