I have always used Cobalt Raq's so that is what I am used to .
Can anyone tell me about other types of servers that will hold more accounts...I am told that Raq4i's can only hold around 200 accounts.
Are there servers that hold more than 200 accounts?
I am simply looking for the best way to take advantage if every bit of space on a server and with only 200 accounts there is a lot of space left over......Please forgive me if this is a dumb question...

Thanks in advance for your help....

Also if there are other server that hold more accounts please email me or post here ...recommended place to get them...

Any "real" server availible today will handle more than this. I say "real" because a raq is a server appliance not a real server. That said, a white box linux server with at least a 500Mhz processor & 256+M of RAM should hold up to 500 domains, depending on the traffic, size, resources etc. Obviously more RAM, and faster CPU will give you better results.

If you look through the hosting offers section, you will find a few good deals on dedicated white boxes, from rackshack, dialtone, and a few others.

There are three key elements plus many other lesser elements to what a server will hold.

1-Space...Seldom is this the limiting factor
2-Bandwidth available to the server...With many of the deals available today, this is becoming less of a problem (lots of deals from 300-500 MB of Transfer/Month)
3-Server Load...This is the most difficult to predict and to monitor because it depends on the combination of all components and use of all sites on the server.

Frankly, I have never put 200 sites on a Cobalt simply because of the number of MySql databases in use as well as bulletin boards etc. However, assuming you were putting 200 sites on a Cobalt and were happy with the performance, you could probably get from 400-800 similar sites on a Unix, depending on configuration. I know of Unix (particularly those which use to host free sites) going over 1000. It all depends heavy on your mix. On the other hand I know of hosts averaging as low as 100 sites on some of their servers.

Sometimes it even becomes the decision....would I rather have one server with Dual Athlon 1 Ghz or above, 2 x 40 HD, 500 GB transfer...or two 1 Ghz Duron or PIII, 1 x 40 HD, 250 GB transfer.
