View Full Version : Please help out ...first time DS
IGTeRR0r 09-18-2004, 04:04 PM I'm leaning towards Ev1, with their $99 Plesk/Red hat package
http://www.ev1servers.net/english/p7r_details.asp
But I don't want to be too quick with my decision.
Who is comparable in terms of the $99 price range, at least around 1000gb transfer, preferably 60gb space and up, a fast processor, and excellent support?
I've never had a dedicated server, so please be detailed and simple in your references as to why they are good :)
I would prefer larger, well known companies as well.
PMH-Steve 09-18-2004, 04:29 PM Hello,
ev1servers.net is good but they are really an unmanaged dedicated server provider. Meaning if you don't know the ins-and-outs of securing and managing your box you may want to start with a provider with more in the way of server management.
One I would recommend is www.interserver.net but if it's Plesk you want this wouldn't be the place (unless things have changed).
For Plesk I would say use www.15minuteservers.com (NAC) they have great support and a very reliable network.
Good Luck and I hope this helps.
IGTeRR0r 09-18-2004, 04:32 PM Thanks alot.
To tell the truth, I don't know alot about Plesk...I've used c-panel, and I like it...I'm really just looking for a ds with a cp, or I'll kill myself over server adminstration.
dkitchen 09-18-2004, 04:34 PM Hi,
Interserver seems to be quite stable now, and they do have some good prices, however a few months back they had some horrible network issues that lead to nearly 24 hours of total downtime.
Their bandwidth providers aren't brilliant, XO and Allegiance. However from what i've heard their offices are over the road from the Interserver DC, so it seems logical to get bandwidth from them first.
There were talks about Internap bandwidth but they never materialised unfortunately.

PMH-Steve 09-18-2004, 04:37 PM Hey well if the cp doen't matter then I would go with:
www.dinix.com or www.interserver.net
Either of those two and you will be fine. Dinix has awesome support but you are going to have to pay a bit more I think their least expensive server with cpanel is about $140 a month (worth it however) but with Interserver you can get something right in the $100 a month range with great support and great uptime.
Good Luck.
PMH-Steve 09-18-2004, 04:39 PM I was on their network for 9 months ending about 6 months ago and I was extemely happy with their service and their uptime. I wasn't arount for the downtime mentioned above but from what I hear they are still very good.

And I'd also recommend taking a look at 15minuteservers. They don't offer cPanel though, but I'm really starting to like the DA on my 15minuteservers box.

You couldn't go wrong with Dinix. You might pay a bit more, but you it will be worth it. They are one of the best providers in terms of support!
IGTeRR0r 09-18-2004, 05:42 PM Thanks for the advice guys. :D

Go with 15minuteservers.com. They have one of the best east coast networks and support is handled within 10-30 minutes whenever I e-mail them, regardless of day/time. OS reinstalls are only $5.00 each, if you run a OS besides Windows. This is good incase you ever mess something up beyond fixing and don't want to pay $25.00-75.00 for a OS reinstall like at some places :) They offer DirectAdmin which is a very nice CP and has very good support via support@directadmin.com or their forums. I've tried Plesk and I'd pick DA over it - Plesk's support doesn't seem that good from when I was with them.
