What is the most effective way you guys utilize key Search Engines? What works to get attention?

Recently, while teaching a Internet class at a local library ( about 40+ in attendence) I was covering usage of search engines and without exception, everyone present said they ignore the adwords, pop-ups and banners. I was surprised.

Are SE's working for you as a source of business growth?

Well, if you use a PPC campaign, it doesn't matter all those people who ignore the text ads, you only pay for the ones that actually generate interest.

People saying that ignore ads doesn't mean that they really do -- and that's especially true if you asked that of the group as a whole instead of polling privately.
