Are there any providers who offer these?
they do NOT have to be unmetered.
Either in the EU or the US.

Well i guess you could have one if you planned on paying around $300,000 a month.

You clearly have no idea of the costs of an unmetered 1Gbit line, and you choose to ignore the fact that the original poster probably just wanted burstability, not full usage. I can't help but feel people just want to increase their post count nowadays, without providing any helpful information whatsoever...

A 1Gbit unmetered line can cost as little as 25000USD/month, but that's besides the point. Quite a few hosts will offer burstable 1Gbit lines for not considerably higher prices than burstable 100Mbit servers as it only requires them to have enough extra capacity for the burst, not to pay for any extra usage of the line. I'll leave it to more experienced users to recommend good providers for this.

if you were going by UK costs then im afraid you are mistaken.

HE.NET offers 1gigabit lines in Amsterdam & London for $18,000USD. Thats a private gigabit line, unshared of course.

im not certain how many ips you get but im willing to bet it would be a considerable amount.

QUITE a few Level3 & Abovenet deals atm so you might want to contact them.

In addition you always have the "teir-3" providers; cogent & yipes who you can get a gigabit from for around $17-19,000. If you choose to go in the price range id recommend HE.NET.

of course this is assuming you want a full gigabit, if you want only a 100mbit with gigabit bursting then id suggest you contact some of the larger scale companies here. I.E Gnax, NetSentry, Sagonet. A HE.NET direct sales rep might be able to work something out also; they are quite accommodating to everyones needs.

my 2 cents

From blueyonder i got a quote of 1gbit line for £230,000 a month. But then i suppose they are not a main stream provider for commercial services. Thanks for the information anyway. I will take a look into those other providers.

Also i think that was the full line and not bustable so probably the reason for the difference.

HE offers as many IP's as you need, as long as you justify them, at no extra charge.

You wont get cheaper than HE.net, but you can get better quality for near the same price.

What kind of server are you looking for, and how high for how long will you be bursting?

I have some recommendations around ~$18,000 and a much better network than HE.net depending on what u want.

Can you be more clear about your requirements? Do you want a dedicated server with 1Gb/s port, but will actually use more like several hundred Mbits/sec; or do you plan on committing to 1Gb/s on a single box? It seems to me that if you've got that much content to deliver, you may want to look at multiple boxes for both performance and redundancy reasons.
