And the bandwidth, oh man. www.supernews.com (assuming they're still in biz) believe me you don't wanna mess with it, unless you're gonna only take a VERY small portion of the available groups that is. Have you tryed offering premium news accounts? I just want to know if it can become profitable. I know it will consume terabytes of harddrive space and large amounts of bandwidth. How are companys like newsguy.com profitable? jic 01-17-2002, 09:07 AM First of all I can say is: 1) Massive web space - You will need at least 200-300 GB of space 2) Massive bandwidth If you are still ok with this and don't mind downloading hundreds of GB's a day then tell me what O/S you run. -- If you don't see how I am coming up with 200-300 GB. Think of every mp3 newsgroup, DivX, VCD, warez, cracks, PORN. Exactly how do news servers share files around the world and is there a fee to give newsgroup access? Do you have to pay USNET? I see SCSI 73.4GB drives for $375 on pricewatch which isn't too bad. We are all here to learn from each other so tell me everything you know =) |
