View Full Version : Anyway for clients to know you are a reseller?
boardr00 09-17-2004, 08:24 PM I was just wondering if there is anyway for a client to see that you are a reseller and don't own your servers. It doesn't really matter what you are as long as you are providing a quality service to your clients but I think some clients might see it as a downfall.
Thanks, Ian

E_man3 09-17-2004, 11:50 PM Don't worry the average client won't even how to look this up.
VN-Ken 09-17-2004, 11:51 PM To answer your question, no there is no way to know, as long as you have your own name servers.
cnm72 09-18-2004, 12:39 AM and even with the few clients who would know to hunt that far explain to them that this is your point of entry into the industry and with time you see moving to your own private server...
it is all how you word/sell things
Webbase 09-18-2004, 12:49 AM Probably posting a thread like this with a link to your site in the sig wont help. (Google your domain in a few months and this thread may appear near by)
However as above, most customers wont know to tracert your domain etc...
Roy@ENHOST 09-18-2004, 02:22 AM It depends on the customers that you are targeting.
I was a reseller with 500MB account for a year when I first started out in 2002.
Nobody found out about the fact that I am a reseller.
The reason is that all my clients are local business owners who needs my assistance in even things as simple as adding an email address in Cpanel. They wanted to focus more on their businesses. They rather pay me to do things such as adding email addresses in spite the fact that I offered to save them money by teaching them how to do it.
Even if they found out, they wouldn't even care. All they care about it me keeping their sites up and of course, be available at all time to add emails. :D
I find that if a client is going as far as looking up your IP's, then there's something a little awry.
Generally, even with white-label IP branding, etc, there's always a way to find out who is hosted where, etc.
Side note: if you want that SOA value changed, drop us a line.

Nilomedia 09-18-2004, 09:33 AM Knowledgeble can look up and know. even if you're dedicated.. From datacenter and lookup it can be figured. just most of clients won't do this. good luck
[inx]Olly 09-18-2004, 10:20 AM I really wouldn't worry about it. You'll find a few clients will find out, but the vast majority won't.
inimino 09-18-2004, 10:34 AM You should be honest with your clients anyway.
If you can explain how reselling allows you to offer a better deal, your customers should understand that.
I'm not saying you have to advertise it, but of course you don't want to do anything that might seem even a little deceptive.
TnetHost 09-19-2004, 10:55 PM try dnsstuffs.com or network-tools.com
