What do you guys think, and would people buy them?
I am going to have a cogent line(s) soon, and want to rent some dedicated servers. Every 5 or 6 servers would be shared on 10megs. The noc/data center is manned 24/7/365.
server specs: amd 1ghz duron, 40g hd, 512mb ram running linux
setup fee is $350, and $250 a month for unmetered bandwidth. I figured I would include 5 free reboots per month as well. Support will be excellent with quick email reply and phone availability. I will have 40 servers available.
Any thoughts? What control panel should I use?

It seems that saying you'll supply 'unlimited bandwidth' is a bit of a no-no around here. :) Not much is truly unlimited. But if you're saying instead that each of your servers will get a 2Mbit connection, and you can dump as much data into that 2Mbit as you like - then I guess thats different.
Also personally given the high level of bandwidth you are offering - I'd like to see decent 'server' CPU's rather than AMD Durons - at least use Athlon's in the systems.

Thanks for your input.
So basically youre on a 2mb connection, burstable to 10meg. No transfer limit.
I could use athlon XP1500s or P3 1ghz instead of the durons.
Is the price ok though? Will people rent these?

I suggest you look at the similar/related offers in the "Special Offers" forum. But from a quick glance your prices seem fairly competitive. But personally I dont know what I'll do with 100Gb data transfer, let alone 300Gb .. and you're offering even more again. :)

I realize the prices are the same as others. The difference here is the small amount of servers, and the fact that you can reach someone who is within 10' of your server on the phone 24/7/365.
No service tickets, no delays, no bs. You just call - phone rings, us="skylab noc" you="Hi this is Larry, pin#xxxxxx, I need you to reboot server 2 on my account" us= "please hold while we verify (30 seconds) ok your server has been rebooted, thanks for using skylab"
I think alot of people will appreciate that level of service. Now the question is, how do I rent out 50 or 60 servers?

Well, if you can deliver such support consisitently, I would say that's a very attractive offer.

What happens when Cogent goes down (or out of business)? Do you have redundant lines?
I, personally, would never put all my eggs in one basket.

When it first goes up cogent will be the only connection. We are within reach of several other providers and plan to add them within 6 months. We will be in the same building as cogent's main hub in La, so I dont really see a problem with them. To date, they havent had any outages there.
