I'm having the following problem on my message board (Invision). All of a sudden some topics take up to 75 seconds to open, while others open instantly. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

What set up are you running it on? What type of database etc...

Is it on a dedicated server? or are many other sites on the same server?

Dedicated server. Barton 3000+, 1GB RAM

no other sites on the server

Have you tried optimising the database? Maybe compact it or if it's MS SQL, running some maintenance tasks on it?

It's MySQL, sorry I forgot to mention. I've tried to optimize and repair the topics and posts tables but it didn't seem to help.

First things I would try is to stop and start the MySQL service and depending on what OS you run you could either start Apache/IIS or even reboot. Also look at RAM usage and see if all looks good there.

Also check for updates on the Invision site to see if there is some new code that is more optimised.

The board is located at forums.theganggreen.com Everyone else was experiencing the same problem. It's gone now for some reason and everything is back to normal but I really would like to know what was causing it.
