my friends group at school has a website built at freeservers.com (free web host). But i don't know why when i search Yahoo or Google for my highschool's name (perticular words) it will return that address in the first line!!!

How I can make yahoo, google and others search engines to return my website adress in the first place when someone search formy school's name? Provided i included the right meta keywords tag...

:(

I'm not sure I'm following you, but I think you're saying that when you search on your school's name your friend's site is the first one returned, and you'd rather that yours would be first. Right?

So that's pretty much what search engine optimization is all about. Everybody wishes there site would be first! One tip for you: if your targets are Google and Yahoo, forget about meta keywords -- they're meaningless to G and Y.

The best secret to a good Google ranking is to build a good site with relevant information in several documents. Use text links and be sure that every page is reachable within a couple of clicks from every other page. Relevant content -- text -- is essential.

Then boost your PageRank by getting other sites to link to you. Get your friend's site to link to you, and anybody else you can think of. But don't use sites that are just link farms, or FFA pages. Get real links from real sites.

Yahoo's nondirectory listings are supplied by Google, so a good Google ranking will give you a good ranking on Yahoo.

P.S. why is this in the Domain Names Forum?
