I have found a lot of my questions, but I am unclear about some stuff.

I've been doing basic hosting for each of my websites seperately (ie: $15/year/site hosting for like 4 different websites) for a couple years now. But like most people--I want moree! I want more customization, power, and control over my hosting. Because I want to be able to distribute space, create subdomains, allocate space for new domains, freely without additional charge I am looking to switch to a DEDICATED or VPS hosting solution. I am also planning on building several more websites (and hosting my friends sites for free).

I have found typical VPS packages I'm interested in are around $30-50/month, and typical dedicated server packages are $70 - 140/month.

1. What are advantages/disadvantages does a VPS have over DEDICATED, vice versa?
2. Does a DEDICATED have any additional fees (such as software)?

I am willing to pay additional for dedicated server (I saw some $70 celeron ones on here).. What do you think of those compared to $40 VPS solutions?

Thanks

I think the cheaper solution for you will be to get a reseller account with the good company. You'll not be able to do the customisations like in VPS/dedicated case, but this solution should be much cheaper than going dedicated.

I still feel a VDS vs. reseller is definitely a better deal for about the same pricing as well. Simply because with even a 20 dollar VDS solution you are getting your money's worth as it is NOT a reseller account where you still have to pay the host a certain fee per customer. Which is how many hosts anymore are ripping off resellers thus the reseller is unable to break even near as fast as if they simply had a Virtual Server.

Just my thoughts on VDS vs. Reseller, if I were in your case I would not even bother looking at reseller packages.

I agree. A VPS is far, far better than any shared package, which is all a reseller plan really is.

You said "reseller account where you still have to pay the host a certain fee per customer." How's that? I thought if you have a reseller plan you can host many domains for no increase in charge so long as you don't exceed your total space and bandwidth?

Can you clarify?
