Hello,
I was wondering which server will perform better:
Dual P3 1 Ghz
512 MB Ram
OR
P4 2.4 Ghz
1 GB DDRam
OR
P4 2.8 Ghz
512 MB DDRAM
80 GB 7.2 k rpm ATA 133 hdd on all servers..
The server's main usage will be mySQL ( 3-4 processes with 50+ queries / second ) and httpd ( 50-100 active processes ) ..
I heared dual cpu will work better... Is that true ??
Thanks!

I would go with the:
P4 2.4 Ghz
1 GB DDRam
Since it has more ram.

heh, you heard dual cpu will work better? yah, dual cpu would work better, but not when its a dual p3 1ghz , haha. if you are mainly gonna be using mysql databases and httpd, then the 1gb ram is definitely better, you should try to get the p4 2.8 with the 1gb ram though, since it prolly has HT. The reason you prolly said 2.8 with only 512 is cuz the price for the 1ghz ram is higher, but ill give u little hint. If you msg the support and try to work out a deal with them , you might just be able to get them to throw in the extra ram on the 2.8 ghz to make it 1gb ram for no extra charge:) Most companies will work with you. Of the 10 dedicated servers i have 8 of them , i talked to them and worked out a little deal with them to get a little extra thrown in. Give it a shot, it cant hurt.

I would probably go with:
P4 2.4 Ghz
1 GB DDRam
The double ram option would probably be better then a bit extra CPU clock speed.

Hi,
I'd go with the machine with the highest RAM, as that's mainly what gets pulled on the most with web servers.
Don't forget to include backup when planning your server, it's a vital part that many miss.
