Hello,

I am planning to buy a dedicated server just to run irc client to share the files and a ftpserver to upload/download files across.
I found a plan with a host who is giving with Redhat 9 OS installed, no control panel as it would cost some bucks more.
My question is Do i need a cpanel? If so which is the easy and free available.
I would like to know some free ftpserver which is free and supports FXP transfers.

for ftpd try PureFTPD and ProFTPD

You don't need a control panel to run IRC. You do need to give some serious thought to security though.

thanks for suggestion,Can you be more specific and some links which need to be done to avoid security breach is appreciated.
Meanwhile, I dont want to run ircd, its just a client like xchat.
