Hi

I noticed there are quite a few people asking on this forum; who is the cheapest registrar, or has anymore heard of X company they charge only $Y per year for domain registering.

I have several domains spread over 3 different registrars I'm sure there are other people like myself :) However I recently had a look at http://www.opensrs.org since all my domains have been purchased through OpenSRS resellers.

I wanted to know 1) what are the costs to join OpenSRS and 2) is there a minimum quota for the number of domains registered per year. From their General FAQ I found the answers;

o Prices for .com, .net, and .org registrations are currently $10 US per registration per year.

o There are no other charges for the software licenses, server access fees or any other payments to OpenSRS, ICANN, Network Solutions or any other entity.

o There are currently no contractual obligations concerning the number of registrations made through the OpenSRS.

I do not want to be a domain name reseller, I just want to save money! All my domains have been purchased for $15 each so I would be saving $5 per domain if I join OpenSRS. Is this best solution for an individual with several domains? Why not just join OpenSRS and cut the middleman?

Thanks

You have to buy in blocks, I believe the minimum is 25 domains, which comes to $250.

Just to entend John's explanation, this info can be found on the OpenSRS site. You do have to purchase a minimum of $250 (25 domain credits), or $500 (50 domain credits) depending on what you sign up for. There are no minimum quotas per year after that.

You can pay around $10 for your domains by transferring them to CORE via http://www.joker.com/ with no minimum purchase.

This does not cut out the middleman as Joker is still making a profit.

Thanks for the quick response!

GordonH, as far as I am aware Joker does not support the registering of multi-lingual domain names, I have a few Chinese domains at the moment :)

Thanks

One additional comment about OpenSRS. Chicken is right in that they require either $250 or $500 to start but they also only accept minimum payments of $250 to refund the account. Probably should keep that in mind!
