I've been looking for a decently cheap credit processor, and the best I've come accross was 2checkout.com. Anybody know of any better ones? Thanks! :D

IMeanWebHosting 09-15-2004, 08:56 AM I've been looking for a decently cheap credit processor, and the best I've come accross was 2checkout.com. Anybody know of any better ones? Thanks! :D Corey Bryant 09-15-2004, 09:49 AM Well they are not really a credit card processor. They are a third party processor. Is that what you might be looking for? if you are going to be processing more than $1,000 a month, you might consider a merchant account. isara 09-15-2004, 11:51 AM I've had an account with 2co for 9 months now, and I have yet to be able to process a sale with them. I'm still using PayPal and looking for other options. I have a very small home-based business, so paying monthly / annual fees doesn't make economic sense. IMeanWebHosting 09-15-2004, 12:27 PM Yeah, I'm in the same boat Isara. I'm not some little kid, but I'm not a giant corp. either... If possible, somebody list ANY credit card processors or 3rd party processors that are affordable to us small businesses. :D Corey Bryant 09-15-2004, 12:56 PM Do you think your volume might be over $1,000 a month? And are you looking for a 3PP or your own merchant account? Chris from CDGCommerce is on here that offers merchant accounts - but not too sure if you are looking for that or a 3PP? IMeanWebHosting 09-15-2004, 12:59 PM I'm honestly not making much now, 2-3 orders a week (just began a week ago), so looking for something small and inexpensive. Mainly just so that I don't ONLY offer paypal, because that seems to give you a bad name... So yeah, 3PP unless you know of some super cheap processor for newbies. :) Corey Bryant 09-15-2004, 01:05 PM Then yes - I would sign up with 2CO at this time. But I would offer Paypal in conjunction with 2CO. I do not think it gives you a bad name. Just more ways to get money :) IMeanWebHosting 09-15-2004, 01:10 PM Yes, that's what I was planning on doing. I am currently ONLY accepting paypal, and that just makes me look unprofessional... So paypal and 2checkout would be a good combination until I get better business? Thanks for the info! :D Corey Bryant 09-15-2004, 01:11 PM Yes - both of them together would be a good combination for you until you increase your volume. And then when you are ready for a merchant account - I would suggest you still maintain Paypal cdgcommerce 09-15-2004, 08:46 PM Thanks for the mention, Corey. :) If your volume is very low initially, PayPal and/or 2CO might be a good starting point, just as Corey mentions. I think a lot of it depends on whether you are testing the waters or if you intend on going "full speed ahead" with your business. If it is the former or if your payments will just be sporadic and occasional for small amounts, 2CO/PayPal are good ways to just test the waters and see if you can acquire enough clients to warrant additional costs. If it is the latter, however, it may make sense to get a merchant account much sooner in that you won't have to worry about transitioning clients at a later point in time and going through all of that headache. Plus, once your business starts to pick up momentum is usually a tricky time to shift around all of your billing and I've run into numerous Web hosts who started small, grew big and then realized that it was going to be a huge logistical challenge to shift all of their 3PP-processed clients over to a direct merchant account. |
