Hello,

Has anyone heard of any of the following hosting companies?

Liquid Web Inc. (http://www.liquidweb.com/info/)
Nexpoint Technologies Inc. (http://www.ntidesign.com/w2kplan4.php)
Whiz Host (http://www.*************/)
W3Hosts (http://w3hosts.com/shared/index.html)

Are any of these companies new start ups with unknown reliability?

I hosted my site with Liquidweb for 6 months and didn't have any problem, except a little downtime when they changed the IPs. When I canceled my account, I called their billing department, and they did it in less than 5 minutes. They also responded to my support tickets in less than an hour. I'm not sure if the support is always good like that or not because I only sent 2 support tickets in 6 months. The reason I moved was because I needed a Windows host to use a modified Snitz forum which supports my language. If you register your domain with Network Solutions, you have to go to NS to transfer your domain yourself. They don't do it for you.

I have a professional account at liquidweb and service has been great. There was one month where I had about 3 or 4 days of downtime, but they credited my account in return. It usually takes at least a few hours for them to respond to support tickets, but they have toll free phone support and there usually isn't a wait at all, and if there is, it's usually very short. The longest I've been on hold is 5 minutes, so not too bad.

Overall their uptime is good, and the cpanel has all the features you'd ever need. I can't give any input on the other hosts, I haven't tried them.

Kamika_Z, you have certainly had different experiences than I have.

I've never reached a person on the phone, only the answering machine. I've called 12-15 times in the past year - with at least 80% of them in "regular business hours."

I've never had any time credited to my account, even after my server has been unusable for 3 days over a long weekend. They found a loophole in their TOS that deterimined they did not have to pay me or honor their uptime guarantee - I cannot see where they would ever pay for their guarantee based on the way they interpret their TOS.

If you have a problem on a weekend, my experience so far says that 80% of the time you have a problem it doesn't get fixed till Monday.

If I've had a question that was technical in nature - rather than a "how to I chmod a file in unix" type question - their staff has generally been unable to answer, and closed the call unresolved. I tried for 4 months to get Interchange working and they finally just gave up and seemingly shrugged their shoulders. They continue to offer it - however I'm not convinced they know how to run it.

All in all, I would rate their service poor. I would not recommend them to anyone who needs to have a server running over the weekend, nor to anyone who wants to do anyting other than very simple websites.

Hmm, yes we do have quite opposite experiences.
Their phone support isn't available over the weekend, but my support tickets always get completed on the weekends.
You can't be nice with them. You have to be assertive, talk like you know what's going on. If you file a support ticket, demand that they reply with more than "Fixed," make them tell you specifically what was wrong. Watch out for Jack though, he doesn't seem the brightest of their support staff. Ross tends to reply with just "fixed" most of the time, but at least it gets fixed. MTerry on the other hand is great...he gets everything fixed and tells you what was wrong even if you don't ask to.
I've been with them for about 6 months now, and other than those few days of downtime (1 day of which was planned and I was notified in advance) the service has been rock solid.
Also some of their servers seem to be better than others. I had a friend who was on their "Spider" server and reliability was horrible. He requested to be switched to their Corona server, which is the same one I am on, and all his reliability problems were solved. Of course that won't improve support any, but at least it will mean you have to contact support less often :)
It's really one of those "try first" things. Order an account for a month, if you like it then keep it going for another month, if it stays good then go ahead and go for a 6 month payment, you get a month free on each payment that way. If you decide to move, the cpanel has a backup option so you can get all your files in a tarball file.

My site was down 24/7 every other minute it would go down and stay down. It was down for an entire month before I was like "give me back my money you evil webhosts!"

However, as far as answering phones go their customer support is AWESOME. No lie, they answered every call and I was never on hold for more than 10-20 minutes (and I had to call them *every day*) The only problem is that they lie to the customer. I was told that they were screwed over by their equipment sales guy, but before that I was told that 1) my site was too big (it was only 200MB at the time and I was using less than 4 Gig transfer) 2) that they were restarting their servers (which they supposedly did every 5 minutes -_- and 3) that someone accidently must have kicked out the power plug (WTF?!!!)

Now, this was in Aug/Sept and when I spoke to tech support yelling at them about killing my site with their crappy services, I was told that they were having a *bad* month. Supposedly whoever sold them all their equipment had sold them bad equipment and all their servers were dying (including mine). I was told that perhaps 3 months later they would be back on track.

I personally think that they are the spawn of satan, but it's up to you...

Please note that if your site becomes popular most likely you'll be shut down. LiquidWeb has in their small print that you can't *really* use the bandwidth/space that they offer.

Hope that info helps. If you want to links to threads about my site from pissed off visitors while I was hosting with LiquidWeb, lemme know and I'll send them to you.

EVIL I TELL YA!!! EVIIIIIIIIL!

Support was always courteous to me even when I was screaming at them. I was on a shared Professional account and they refunded me fully. Still, the down time killed my site for a month. And while I don't have a heavy traffic site, all of my visitors are regular visitors who communicate with me daily, and I had to hear nothing but complaints for that entire month ;_;

Although... (since it didn't happen to me) I find the "jackass" login to be rather amusing *snicker*
