Hi
Lets say i run a website that gets alot of hits daily.
If i wanted to start making money off it
where would i go to do that?

I was thinking about banner ads, but this my first time considering profit.
I mean
I heard not many people pay for impressions anymore
Does anyone have any idea how i would go about doing this? Or where?

it would not be adult content fyi.

affiliate programs are a good idea, I mean it's a start, some people luck out with them and others don't. With my site, I have links to BestBuy, Capital One, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and others.

Some affiliates pay a commision of the sale, others pay a flat price per registration, sale, etc....

A good place to start Commision junction: www.cj.com (http://www.cj.com)

This is where I signed up for most of the big name companies that I have on my site.

With the affiliate programs, the affiliate, lets say BestBuy, provides a certain set of links, be it banner, text or small image, that I can use on my site, once the user clicks through and makes a sale, or registers, bingo, money for me.

Be careful though, some of the affiliate aren't too good.

Hope this helps a little.

I think most affiliate programs are nothing but a bunch of croc. You are completely under the mercy of the merchant. They keep all of the stats so if they decided to shave your hits you often will have no clue. I know because I was in many of them a few years back. My web logs would always show a HUGE discrepancy over what the affiliate program's site says.

And they find ways through their TOS to screw you too. Take for example Amazon.com. Even though you could earn a 15% cut on any books you sell via an affiliate link, once the visitor leaves that link and moves elsewhere on Amazon's site you get $0.00.

Many of these affiliate programs will use you for branding, and often times you will pay for the bandwidth serving their banners. Free advertising for them. Screw you.

Bottom line is, don't expect to get rich or even remotely profitable going the affiliate route. Yeah there are honest programs here and there, but I think most are just out to take you for a spin.
