View Full Version : Looking for new payment processor

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a new credit card payment processor. I currently use 2Checkout and PayPal (just about 90% of orders are via 2checkout), but 2Checkout will not send checks until they "verify" with customers that the product was delivered. This delays so much, especially since I sell magazine subscriptions, where the customer does not start receiving until at least 4 weeks later.

Are there any other solid CC processor's out there?

Thanks,
Dan

I personally use CDGCommerce. I believe they're on LiveChat 9-5 on weekdays, so you can ask them. :)

Chris also posts on the forums as well, plus from what I seen he is a real nice professional guy! I have not used them yet, but from what I seen and how he acts it is good (also I talked with other people on their livechat).

I use Propay, and am very happy with them. It's a $35 annual fee. However, you'd need to verify with your SSN too much. Also, when signing up, you need to verify yourself by sending a personal check of $35. However, they have a virtual terminal. Thing is, you'd need to collect your customer's info via your own secure form, or send them a bill manually. Either way, nothing is automatic, as you'd either have to key the information in, or send a bill and have the customers click on the propay link. No, you cannot integrate it to be automatic, and even if you figured out how to work around it, I think it's against their terms.

Some processors also consider magazine subscriptions high risk because there is a much higher chance of chargebacks. Unfortunately - it will not matter on a personal level until you establish a relationship with them. Sometimes they will look into your previous history.

Another thing to note, if you are processing over $1,000 a month or more, you should consider a merchant account since you seem to be in the United States. With 2CO, your rate (including the transaction rate) is going to be 13% (for 200 transactions at $6.00 each. Using some standard pricing for a merchant account account, that would be 9.9%. Of course doubling the transactions to 400, reduces it to about 8.7%. 2CO would be 13%. So with a merchant account you will be saving money & time.

We use http://www.merchantaccounts4less.com and have been very happy. We purchased a bundled solution that included Internet Merchant Account and the Linkpoint Payment Gateway which has been excellent.

Thanks for the kind words, all. :)

To re-iterate some of the comments mentioned earlier, if you are based in the U.S. - you should definitely have some options available to you for a merchant account with better terms than 2CO.

If you are based in a non-U.S. area - then it becomes more difficult to place it with a provider offering better terms. A lot of it will depend upon your monthly sales volume. If you do a lot of sales, you can find cost effective int'l options.

But if you do only a relatively small amount - then it is much more difficult to find an offshore/non-U.S. merchant processor whose fees won't end up costing you a much higher % of your total monthly sales.

We are going to start using CDG Commerce Monday or Tuesday, I would recommend them.

Thanks for the recommendation Michael. As far as processors - the guys are right, CDG is one of the stable ones around for merchant accounts.

I'll also have to second Corey over at http://www.merchantaccounts4less.com/. They were really helpful and always helped me out even after the sale. Most will not do that. You are usually referred to the processor at that point. He seemed to always be answering e-mails at any given time. I do not know if he ever sleeps.

And they are very solid. They are backed by First Data - one of the largest, if not largest processor in the world. Cardservice has been in business since 1988 and First Data has been in transfer business for a very long time

We paid $100. This is a special rate for WHT members as I understand it. Their regular price is $150. You can check all their rates on their website at http://www.merchantaccounts4less.com
