Need help installing mod_layout.. get apxs not found errors when i try.. (apxs is in a different place than it is looking).. i also don't have mod_so installed (don't know if i need it).. I am willing to pay to have it installed..

check your "Makefile" file... (for the apxs path)

Okay.. still having problems with this.. everything is compiling perefectly now, but in the wrong mode.. When i restart apache i get a:

Starting httpd: [Sat Jan 12 14:21:04 2002] [warn] Loaded DSO modules/mod_layout.so uses plain Apache 1.3 API, this module might crash under EAPI! (please recompile it with -DEAPI)

It looks like you recompiled Apache, but didn't recompile the module. Try recompiling the module. (using the new correct path to apxs)
