Lately I get one every 10 minutes if I stay online. If I am "private" I never get them. What is funny is some of them when you reply to say, "Don't Spam me motherf$%#er" you get what looks like an automated message. It is always something like, 'Do you sleep naked?" or "Just go look at my site, you'll love it". I am getting tired fo this and I am going to start to keep track of numbers and then let ICQ about them. greggish 01-14-2002, 04:00 PM If they could get rid of the spam then I wouldn't have so much of a problem with the little ads they're planning on showing...but ads AND SPAM is just too much. cbaker17 01-14-2002, 04:02 PM 2 minutes after posting this what do you know someone decides to IM me: You have received a message! Hi, i'm a sexy girl, come and see my homepage!!! www.xhost.tv/freepages/patty Justin S 01-14-2002, 04:06 PM I get 5-6 of those per week on ICQ as well. Never happened on AIM, though the other day I received a spam message from www.guruhosting.biz asking if I needed hosting. greggish 01-14-2002, 04:06 PM Sorry, I promise I won't do it again. ;) mdrussell 01-14-2002, 04:40 PM Lol, I normally average around 10 a day... but I'm so used to it now, it doesn't annoy me as much as it used to. ICQ couldn't really care less, from what I've heard, unfortunately alpha 01-14-2002, 05:14 PM I never get any ICQ spams anymore... but I used to get random ones all the time... oh well, I don't know if I did something different or what... I've never had an AIM spam - make sure that your profile has the 'allow people to search me' off and don't sign up for those 'Subprofile.com' services that just allows you 'extend' your profile on AIM - they have a sure fire way of using advantage of the fact that they have tons of AIM screen names in their database... mkaufman 01-14-2002, 05:35 PM I get at least 10-15 spams exactly like you charles..every day..usually at night MarcD 01-14-2002, 05:48 PM thats why i dont use icq ne more plus all the security flaws in it method5 01-14-2002, 05:57 PM Is anyone using icq and aol and getting boatloads of IM's that are spam for porno sites, its driving me nuts i must get more then 20 now a day... i use icq and aol im ALOT, and this is worse then email! It's because icq made it just to easy to do it, anybody without any programming knowledge could knock something off to spam icq lists in little time. cheesysticks 01-14-2002, 06:51 PM plus all the security flaws in it If you want to get hacked seriously by a 7yr old script kiddie, leave your ICQ on and be "web aware"... probibly not a hastle for the normal user but do you realy want to risk it if your into the tech side? Great program though. Would of thought most hosts would SSL a chat script, after all even windows users can use the abriasoft.com ssl server for free. just give someone your url instead of an icq number eg chat.yourdomain.com. I know its not practical for many people but still it is a quick and safer way to communicate tech stuff, and yes you make your certs as you install the server, very easy:D XTStrike 01-14-2002, 06:59 PM lol, ive pretty much stopped getting ICQ spams, maybe cos my number is so low. And dont tell ICQ but using that advert remover i got off the web really improved matters, no more adverts on ICQ for me :-) TradeViceroy 01-14-2002, 07:54 PM LOL! I haven't received SPAM via ICQ in over a year. =) Even then, it was only one...maybe two per week. Never got anything over AOLIM though. Bogdan 01-14-2002, 07:54 PM I use to get a load of those everyday. Go to your preferences and check: "Accept messages only from users on my contact list." "Do not accept WWPager messges." "Do not accept EmailExpress messages." Unflappable 01-14-2002, 08:55 PM Spamming through AOL Instant Messenger seems to be a lot worse for people who are using the AOL version versus the non-AOL version. It seems some spammers have it set up peruse AOL users' profiles for keywords and then target them...or something! All I know is my friend has "lesbian" listed in her profile interests, because (duh) she's a lesbian. And she get more AIM spam than anyone I've ever known. In fact she has to be on private all the time or else gets spam literally every 30 seconds, which makes it pretty hard to function. |
