Are warez / illegal content (like adult stuff) a problem. Do ppl find that they need to frequently clean out / check their members files?

In my opinion, it's a problem as it's illegal and the host has a responsibility to ensure that such things are not on his servers. Secondly, warez and illegal content like adult pics are huge bandwidth eaters, you will need to monitor on this.

sorry i should be more clear, I was asking whether hosts find that enough of their clients store these stuff for it to become a problem for them that they must regularly make checks.

I don't spend too much time "hunting". But, if in the regular going about of my job I come across anything funny, I'll take swift action. I also go a bit overboard in the public display of offenders, partly to pass on the word, but mostly so that current customers know I'm not joking when it comes to policy.

well, it really becomes impossible to check contents of each web site hosted on your server. all you can do is look for some zip files etc. and words like warez. crack etc. and close the account you found violating your tos.

Also, whey there should be an action against the host if he don't know of the situation :o. ?

In most cases, you don't need to actually do much "hunting", as when someone is sharing this sort of stuff, high disk, and bandwidth utilization comes with it. Anytime a user's bandwidth or disk space spikes, I look into it.

We do occasionally peruse the sites on our servers and we strictly enforce our policies. However, as another host said, you don't really have to search, because problems will arise and 90% of the time you will track the cause to warez, adult, or illegal downloads.

If I find a reseller or customer causing problems because of a script, a bulletin board, or another legitimate issue, I immediately try to assist them is remedying the problem and getting back in operation.

However, if I find a customer causing warez, adult, or illegal related problems, I act strongly and immediately. If it's a resold account, I immediately suspend the site in question and give the reseller a very brief time to correct the problem. If it's a direct customer, he is terminated immediately-no second chance on this issue.
