Hi there, I have a potential client who is asking about tomcat.

I currently do not have it installed, and was wondering just how resource intensive it is.

I've heard both good, & bad things.

This will be on a WHM/CPanel server running RH Fedora (P4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM)

It should be fine as long as you don't have it enabled for many domains.

We ran a few Tomcats for folk and they were generally okay, but I think you'd start to see resource hits if too many people were using them.

I wouldn't do it unless I was getting paid enough extra for the service to offset the performance hit that Tomcat makes on the server. Also, you should ask yourself whether you can provide support for Tomcat before offering it to clients, IMO.

On our old Ensim Pro server, each site with Tomcat ran a 14 MB process 24/7 which started taking a toll on the server - without it, we had a very noticeable performance increase.
