View Full Version : Champion at it again?
OK, im not making any assumptions as to who may have copied who. Heck, he may have gotten permission to do so ( whomever was not the origonal party ). Its just that, well, I smell fish :/
http://www.championhost.com/index.html
and
http://www.liquidshack.net/index.html
I don't even know if this has been mentioned.. it may have, but a search didn't turn up anything.. so if this is a double post, please let me know.
What do ya'll think?
SI-Chris 01-13-2002, 11:00 PM Well all those customer comments on the liquidshack.net home page say "Thank you Champion Host."
Could it be possible that the shoe is on the other foot for a change?
HostInspect 01-13-2002, 11:01 PM I believe you won that contest that was on a while back.
I forgot what the winner will get.... I will dig it out.
JustinK 01-13-2002, 11:03 PM Not sure, but they both lie about it being secure. haha, that is funny. Someone pulling a copy off... ahem... anyway.
Joana 01-13-2002, 11:05 PM It looks like championhost.com had the design first..
Check the NS for both domains..
LIQUIDSHACK.NET goes to ADDR.com and was created Jan7.
Go Figure..
Must be Karma coming back and kicking him in the face.. Do I still win? What do I get? Me like prizes!!!!
NetXL 01-13-2002, 11:13 PM How'd you spot it?
TrouT 01-13-2002, 11:22 PM Neither of them are completely truthful.... Both of their sites display "Top 10 hosts during April 2001" Yet.. you go to the site that gives the awards away and take a look at the April 2000 Awards... neither of them are in there... So they could've both stolen the design...
bigmattyh 01-13-2002, 11:34 PM This ain't forensic science, but look at the font for ChampionHost and the font in the image of the front page. Its' the same.
Now that doesn't prove anything by itself, but it looks at first like ChampionHost may have a legitimately-designed site for once.
imnotstpd 01-13-2002, 11:44 PM Hey, their prices are pretty good. Both of them. Besides their twin pages are they any good as hosts?

I haven't checked, but you won't find them because you are looking at the wrong year.

Use the search button in the upper right corner to find their (or any other hosts that have been written about here) history. Championhost is notorious for thievery of intellectual property.
But if their prices are good, who cares!
JustinK 01-14-2002, 12:53 AM They actually were featured for nov2001.
http://www.**************.com/nov2001.shtml
appletreats 01-14-2002, 06:15 PM I believe that perhaps Champion Host was ripped off, for once.
There is a link to "Resellers" on both sites. Only Champion Host has a reseller page. Why would someone add a button for it, but not a page?
Many pages on the Liquid Shack site show Domain Names selected on the menu bar, even though that is not the current page. Champion Host does not have this problem.
All four of Champion Host's packages are available to purchase on the sign up page. Liquid Shack's plans have the same names as Champion's, except with the addition of Titanium. However, the Titanium plan cannot be selected on Liquid Shack's order page.
I recall seeing at least some of those customer reviews on a real review site a while back. They referred to Champion Host.
Champion Host and Liquid Shack have different months listed on their "Top 10" awards. No conclusion.
Fonts match the rest of the site on the Support page at Champion Host, but not at Liquid Shack.
Unless I'm missing something, Liquid Shack was not named a Top 10 host in April 2001. (http://www.**************.com/april2001.shtml)
And my best evidence of steal-o-robbery: Liquid Shack's policies mention Champion Host under the service abuse section. Have a look. (http://liquidshack.net/policy.html)
Not that I'm accusing anyone...
i'm betting the same. I think championhost auctally paid a designer for once...
edit -now, it's pretty evident that liquidshack.net copied championhost...
When I went to the sign-up page on liquidshack.net, the pull down menu to chose which plan you want to sign up for, has four packages... Starter, Silver, Gold and Platinum. But on their page that has the plans with the info and prices, the have 5 plans to choose from! (Starter, Silver, Titanium, Gold and Platinum... Champion host has four plans available for purchase!
I'm just wondering why would someone want to copy a site from a host with such a bad reputation already
Joana 01-14-2002, 06:32 PM Is it possible that Liquid Shack is a reseller for Championhost?
Anybody contacted Championhost to verify?

I doubt it. LiquidShack's name servers are with addr.com. You would think that they would host their site with the people they resell...
Joana 01-14-2002, 06:40 PM You'r right.. it's with addr. I will be really interested to her what LiquidShack has to say..
:)
appletreats 01-14-2002, 06:46 PM "Oh, I didn't mean to steal their site. It was an accident." ;)
method5 01-14-2002, 06:58 PM "Oh, I didn't mean to steal their site. It was an accident."
haha. more like "I swear I paid designers for this and had no idea"
Joana 01-14-2002, 08:57 PM you mean "I hired a free lancer to do it.."
MilkMan 01-14-2002, 09:07 PM The reseller button on Liquids doesn't have the hover down button. If you're going to steal it, steal it all
TrouT 01-14-2002, 10:11 PM I mean't april 2001. They still aren't featured.
JustinK 01-14-2002, 11:23 PM Hmmm I didn't see any April 2001 image...
bigmattyh 01-14-2002, 11:27 PM You know what I'd love to see?
I'd love to see ChampionHost get on WHT and complain that someone's stolen his site!

Funny, now they say 'Thank you Liquid Shack' - you only posted yesterday, so there's a good chance Liquid Shack has seen this forum.
Incidentally, maybe I just missed this point in an earlier post but I couldn't see it - isn't it a bit odd that both hosts have exactly the same customers who say exactly the same things? I mean, if you had two hosts, surely you wouldn't give EXACTLY the same testimonial?
benoire 01-15-2002, 12:59 AM http://www.liquidshack.net/domain.html - check the page title.
If you're going to copy a site, you might as well do it properly !!
muppie 01-15-2002, 04:12 AM Here's another theory.....
ChampionHost and LiquidShack are both owned by the same guy
hehehe

hehehe I had also thought of that, and I think it's a very viable theory considering how tarnished the ChampionHost name is (although LiquidShack sounds more like a bar with tiki torches and specialty Mai Tais than a Web hosting company).
michaeln 01-15-2002, 11:49 AM I don't think they are the same people but you never know....

There are actually a few BIG hosts there, I wonder where the text block is originally from =) The funny thing is, you can't just say they are resellers of one, since about half are cpanel, half are plesk, and there are some that don't have a panel.

I see that the crtl+c and the crtl+v keys have been unusually active in some of those cases above... but who's text was it originally?
I think that's what we all want to know...
method5 01-15-2002, 05:26 PM I actually found more too, it's just I got too lazy and thought my point was made. So there was no point to copy the rest of them into the thread :D
DanielP 01-15-2002, 05:48 PM LOL...... well.... we host 5 out of that list, 6 if you include us so...............
you tell me :)
method5 01-15-2002, 07:22 PM Daniel,
That explains it, I didn't think you would be one to copy when your companys so reconizable.
TotalHst 01-15-2002, 07:55 PM Is it possible that Campion Host could be just starting a clone company? Is certanly is a possibility. Just a thought.

That's what I was thinking, it would be a small price to pay to get rid of their negative publicity.
