Hi,
I'm just curious about the pricing of domain names and how many ppl actually still buy them. Personally, if I find a name that is not available, I'll just try and think up a new one. I reckon a good 5 letter domain can be as good as most 3 letter ones anyway.
my 2 cents.

range from 6.95 if maybe you buy 100 but a single one i'd say i've seen 8.85 at stargateinc and 8.00$ if you get two at stargateinc.
but if you want good support register your domain where i registered mine www.000domains.com EXCELLENT SUPPORT 13.95/year :)

sorry vibesolutions, I didn't make myself clear enough. I meant reselling domain names, like if I already had besthost.com registered and I wanted to sell that. Hows the market for this ?

I'd say there is almost no market at all. Just as you say, I think it is very rare where someone really needs a certain name, often it is easy to find another that will work as well or use another extension or twist it in some toher way.
Places like afternic.com might give you an idea about the market.

In general, not a great market. The huge prices you use to see were for "the perfect" domain name. Now, the degree of advantage of those available from resellers versus those available through registration is generally minor. And there are many expired three letters available...just they are all problematic...For instance number 0 versus letter 0, number 1 versus letter I....no one can tell the difference.
The only ones I really buy through secondary sellers are those that provide a very specific match to my or my customer's needs.

Also, to add to the "the huge prices you use to see were... "
it was also during the golden age of 1999-2000 when money ( venture capital ) was not a problem for Internet companies

Your domain name is only worth what someone will pay for it. A deep pocketed interest may want to purchase something you have registered for a project and "might" be willing to pay your price. I have seen domain resale pricing go from $25,000/$100,000 to todays $2,500/$5,000 US which to me for a "needed" name is fair.
Are people still buying domain names? Yea, when you can find them ;)
