I have a website that has a pagerank 3 right now is only in Spanish but I'm designing in it English as well. My fear is that as soon as I finish the index page will have the choice for the options for English or Spanish the index will have less content because it's going to be a page for redirection to the correct language. Will that hinder my ranking?. If so, how do you guys that have a bilingual site cope with this situation and not damage your ranking?

Changing your page can definitely affect where it will rank with the engines. If you like your current page, can you keep it and just add a link to the new English version?
Can you keep it, but add a check of the visitor's browser language, then redirect only the browsers set to English to the new English version?
Another possibility is that with two versions, the engines will begin to skip your index page altogether and start sending visitors to one of your two next pages depending on their search.

If it's a dynamic site, you should be able to do the switch without affecting your page rank, Do a detection, and if it's english, append a lang=en to the URL or something of that nature.
