View Full Version : Problems at Burst.net
jcinHouston 01-13-2002, 06:05 PM I noticed very sluggish server responses today, and when I ping my site on a dedicated server at burst, I got really high ping times 150-200ms where it's usually 50-70. I then tried their domain at www.burst.net and got the same slow results. I tried calling there tech support number but no one every answered.
So the question is..is this just my server or anyone else see reallly sluggish results.
JC
Yes, our server is extremly slow as well, caused by severe packet loss that occurs at Bursts ATT and SPRINT ports. See http://akut.etableraweb.com:82/monitor

ho247 01-14-2002, 06:19 PM Does anyone know what caused this slowness with Burst.NET?
Alan
jcinHouston 01-14-2002, 06:22 PM I finally got a hold of tech support today...and they say nothing is wrong, "just a lot of traffic on the net". I've had this server for three months now with no problems and it's been exremely slow for the last two days, I think I made a mistake going with them.
XTStrike 01-14-2002, 06:27 PM Report for burst.net [66.96.192.201]
Analysis: 'burst.net' was found in 10 hops (TTL=240). But, problems starting at hop 9 in network
"Sprint/United Information Service" are causing IP packets to be dropped.

Following your comments it seems their equipment may not be coping with the heavy traffic too well.
Its loosing packets at their router with Sprint
William 01-14-2002, 06:39 PM maybe they are just out of bandwidth, not equipment failure.
UmBillyCord 01-14-2002, 06:47 PM maybe they are just out of bandwidth, not equipment failure.
Oh no, here comes trouble. :)
I have missed the whole VDI/Burst soap opera. Can't wait to see how this turns out. :D
BurstNET 01-14-2002, 06:56 PM We are not out of bandwidth.
We are researching the problem with our upstream providers.
AT&T has been having consistent problems the past few weeks...
There is nothing wrong with our equipment/router...and it can definetely handle the load, and then some....
Also, we have a MCI/Worldcom DS3 being installed this week...Verizon called today, and said they would be here tomorrow...so that will speed things up ALOT.

William 01-14-2002, 07:08 PM They use the same router as we do, so the hardware is good, just assumed BW was the issue..
With all the BB going out of business, i can forcast some load probs down the road.

Hope MCI/Worldcom kick in soon. Heavy packet loss seems to happen daily.(right now). It is kind of getting out of control as we dont know how to explain to our clients!!
ho247 01-15-2002, 12:46 PM Sean, nice to hear that update with the new providers. Just that I haven't read too many posts on here from you, and was wondering how Burst was actually doing.

It has gotted a little better on the time outs....but after burst.net router melt down a couple of weeks ago, and then this problem for the last three days I guess its time to bail......

Verizon is here now provisioning the new line.
Worldcom tells us it will be live and operational by Thursday.
BurstNET is doing just fine...we have just been too busy to post here that much lately. We have a full page ad in HostingTech Magazine this month, and things have been very busy. We will be hitting the 500 server mark within the next month or so...We have also hired a Customer Service Manager who will be starting in the beginning of February, who's job will be to keep clients happy and difuse any problems before they become such...

Just notice a bit of downtime at the moment. Are they turnning their MCI/Worldcom DS3 on right now or network problem again?
XTStrike 01-17-2002, 07:07 AM I cant have been helping them out too much, i started a ping several days ago on one of my servers and accidentally left it running =/ - ive been running a standard ping on them for at least 3 days, oops sorry burst.
