Now that the major Search Engines charge for the priveledge of entering your web hosting business onto there creepy crawler.

What is the most cost effective method of getting listed with the main search engines?

Is there still a free way of getting listed, or do I need to shell out some cash. I realise if I use a service to get listed with several of them I should expect to pay a fee, (who wants to work for nothing!)

Most likely you will have to shell out some cash. I mean what do you expect for free? - How about getting listed at the bottom of the millions of entries. But if ya pay yahoo or be a google adwords sponsor, you get to be at the top! Not only that if you can out beat bids at hostsearch.com you can even be at the first place! But thats at $120 per CPM (not 100% sure about pricing now).
