View Full Version : Cheapest domain register
chilediez 01-13-2002, 03:01 PM Hi to all,
I am looking for:
1. A domain register that charges $8 year or less per domain with customizable parking feature.
2. A domain register that has page and e-mail redirection.
Any suggestions and experiences?
THANKS
ckpeter 01-13-2002, 03:22 PM Well, unless you are buying in volume, stargateinc.com probably has the lowest rate($8 per domain, miniman 2 domains)
You should also search the forum for more discussion.

thewitt 01-13-2002, 03:30 PM Make sure you read the TOS and check for - better yet ask about - hidden costs with any of the registrars you are considering.
I've had a number of customers bitten by hidden charges in changing DNS information, changing ownership information, transfering domains, etc.
It's best to be informed before your purchase rather than afterward.

chilediez 01-18-2002, 12:38 PM I asked if they have:
1. Change owner information?
2. Change admin, contact or billing information?
3. To transfer the domain to another provider?
4. To manage DNS?
5. To create a name server?
6. To create the web page?
7. To setup the email on your domain?
8. On renewal, what would be the price?
The anwser:
There are no hidden fees or additional charges. Renewals are guaranteed at
the same bulk rate.
Sincerely,
Don Welbourn

I use stargateinc.com and can confirm that all of the above is included in their advertised price.
freakysid 01-18-2002, 07:43 PM Just be carefull with stargateinc.
They processed authorisations against my visa card (which effectively denies me of my own funds in my account for one week) only to knock back the transactions because I did not pass through their "fraud prevention" checks. Seems like they have the process around the wrong way.
onthecatwalk 01-20-2002, 12:26 PM dirtcheapdomain.com
they are an excelent service....its $12 per year for one year, $8 for two and up, or $8 per domain for multiple!

Onthecatwalk thanks for your reply.
I checked dirtcheapdomain.com but it is expensive:
$10(9.95) when you buy 2 domains, and
e-mail (POP3) is an extra of $25 per account.
mpkapadia 01-21-2002, 02:13 PM The cheapest i have seen till date is reg2c.com , 6.95$ for single domain name,
but have no idea how good or bad they are.
I have used stargate before , have registered 100 odd domains over there but not using off late after thay had lots of system problems,
But they offer the best features around for sure
Regards,
ToastyX 01-21-2002, 02:21 PM GoDaddy.com is $8.95 a year, and they're ICANN accredited. reg2c.com doesn't seem to be ICANN accredited so I don't know if they can be trusted. Check out DotRegistrar.com if buying in bulk.
Ectoman 01-21-2002, 02:35 PM Is Tera-Byte a good registar? I've registered my domain with them already.. are they good? Do they have any hidden fees?
BTW, they are only $13.50..
onthecatwalk 01-21-2002, 02:43 PM ectoman,
there was a thread taking about them somewhere search for their name and you should find it. :)
Ectoman 01-21-2002, 07:51 PM Sorry bout that..
diederik 01-21-2002, 07:59 PM Hi , I just DirectI.com
$6.75 for domain transfers and $7.25 for new registrations.
They won't offer forwards or any extra services though, but get yourself a nice hosting account and do it yourself ? ;)
Dylan 01-21-2002, 08:14 PM diederik  awesome! are there any other registrars as cheap as them that you know of?
bigmattyh 01-21-2002, 09:36 PM Stargate's been really good so far. No problems. I'm actually considering moving all my domains there as they come up for renewal this year.
diederik 01-22-2002, 05:56 AM diederik awesome! are there any other registrars as cheap as them that you know of?
Hmmmm.... as you already may know, godaddy is quite cheap aswell, but I'm a happy DirectI customer
They're very cheap and deliver good service :stickout

I use AVS and fraud protection for my own web site. The only way to determine if a card is fraudulent is to process an authorization. I spoke with my credit card rep and they stated that this is the correct way to process a credit card.
dairola 01-04-2006, 12:26 AM My company actually got ripped off by Stargate. They even tried to prevent us from transferring our domain names to Directi until we got ICANN involved.
Directi is not as cheap as they advertise. The last time that we added money to our Directi account, they over charged our credit card by 6.12%, making their effective bulk domain name registration/renewal fee $7.16 (that is after prefunding the account with over US $1,000). Furthermore, Directi often double charges for renewals (i.e., they will give us a one year renewal and deduct for two years of renewal fees).
If anyone knows of a GOOD, low cost domain name registrar, please let us know, since we have not had much success, thus far...
domainathon 01-04-2006, 03:55 PM I prefer namealerts.com
at $8.95 a year
They offer free domain pushing wich is a plus because I buy and sell alot.
Free URL forwarding
Free email forwarding (up to 100 addresses)
Free comprehensive DNS management
They are the best and easiest to use for the money.
C'mon guys. You can't compare Godaddy's $8.95 (really $9.20) with Directi's $7.25. GoDaddy using a $2 coupon code (goox3004at) is $7.20 including free everything. Directi charges $4.99 each for url and email forwarding, making it $17.23. Now who's cheaper?

dairola,
Ripped off? Not quite. I clearly recall the facts and details of the situation from over 3 years ago.
Stargate Auto-Acks all transfers except in the case of credit card chargebacks, attempted hijacking or if the domain name was on Registrar-Lock.
I'd consider a new registrar if they offered free privacy for under 10 bucks. Just so long as it's not 1&1, or any of their imitators.
xtremme 01-05-2006, 09:15 AM Hello, I recommed namecheap.com they are very cool and surf google, you'll find any promotional code . I can say that for $7.99 I have domain names there.
Greetings
Masud 01-05-2006, 10:03 AM 1 and 1 offers domains at 5.99 a year but dont forget to read the TOS
Stan Marsh 01-05-2006, 10:40 AM Directi charges $4.99 each for url and email forwarding, making it $17.23. Now who's cheaper?
Last time I checked they were USD 0.49 each. So your mathemathics aren't quite adding up.
6.99+(0.49*2)=7.97
PLUS you'll get a true (no 'so-called', like in GoDaddy's case) customer support. PLUS you'll be able to resell. PLUS you'll be binded by much better TOS. Etc etc etc.
Anyway... I don't want to start a flame here...
Kudos to dairola for waking up a 4-year old thread...
I'm not inclined to get into a flame war also :) But when I checked my account yesterday they were charging me $4.99 each. When I check today, they've removed the pricing. My Total Receipts are $9.98 for the url/email forwarding of exactly 1 domain.
We must differentiate whether we are talking about a retail account or a reseller account. I am not a Directi reseller because I don't like their control panel, and I'm going to transfer my domains away from Directi as and when they come up for renewal, if I haven't sold them first :) Despite their cheap prices (for resellers).
So we got to the bottom of that confusion, eh?
Sigma Pi 01-05-2006, 07:12 PM ipower 2.95 per domain
dmaven 01-07-2006, 08:49 PM cheapest is not always the best.
Stan Marsh 01-08-2006, 06:20 AM cheapest is not always the best.
Especcially in IPower and Yahell cases... ;)
Agree with dmaven. Also, cheapest isn't always what it seems.
go to http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/domains/
2.99/year
easy to use
lots of features

Webmaster7 01-09-2006, 01:05 PM Trusting a valuable domain to anyone, just because it's cheap, is taking a big risk...
bodhisattva 01-09-2006, 02:28 PM i have been using namecheap for a few years now. i prefer their interface over others, and its much better. i have transferred domains to and from namecheap, and everythings gone smoothly. i have seen cheaper, but i am satisified with the price/quality/service.
Pillhead 01-11-2006, 01:48 PM www.domainsite.com do them for $6.95
zenex5ive 01-11-2006, 01:58 PM I have been using namecheap for the past 2 years and no complaints so far. They allow paypal too, which is good.

Cab you direct me where on DirectI.com site domain registration part is?
Stan Marsh 01-30-2006, 03:19 AM Cab you direct me where on DirectI.com site domain registration part is?
DirectI is now resellerclub and the sign-up page for their services is: http://manage.resellerclub.com/anacreon/servlet/ResellerSignupServlet?&validatenow=false&redirectpage=%2Fservlet%2FResellerSignupServlet%3F%26validatenow%3Dfalse
Good luck!
Master Bo 01-30-2006, 03:32 AM Thanks localpub. Honestly, I'm not impressed at the first sight - many features like domain forwarding are paid, and price is ridiculous for the service provided. Yet I suppose this registrar is worth investigating.

Price is as low as 6.50 per com/net/org (currently I am paying 6.99).
'Many features' (email/website forwarding, managed DNS) are non-esential for me (as I run my own hosting company), but priced not so high anyway - 0.49 per year.
For the reseller this is the best solution, IMHO.
dmaven 01-30-2006, 10:53 PM Directi is good for cheapo registration, if you really need the add ons enom is better
dairola 02-02-2006, 03:36 AM No, again, Directi is not as cheap as they advertise, even for their reseller account. The actual registration/renewal/transfer pricing is as much as about $1 per domain more than advertised, after you factor in all of the fees associated with depositing funds into your reseller account.
Also, Directi's customer support is terrible...

Not at all, if you'll deposit $100-200 at a time. Of course, if that will be per-registration basis, PayPal's fee will make a considerable percentage of your total payment (but NOT $1.00).
Also, Directi's customer support is terrible...
Wow, would like to hear more about that. You most probably never encountered RegisterFly or Onlinenic...
technanny 02-02-2006, 07:24 PM Why not Godaddy?
Pokercards 03-31-2006, 06:38 AM I use Registerfly 9.99 for one domain(use coupons), 7.99 with a coupon.
Free 1gb website, free privacy protection with every domain
Transfers, domain masking, forwarding free ect
No hidden charges i can see.
But they are renound for there poor support, I usally use egold to pay them and had no problems.
BuzzE 03-31-2006, 10:13 AM 1and1 are very good for UK domains from previous experience.
Gigahostingbiz 03-31-2006, 10:44 AM nicdirect.de
you get the prices they get (and their mother company is very big!) by paying a monthly fee which never changes. the more domains you have the cheaper it will be !
Best regards
OnlyMP 03-31-2006, 10:50 AM Yahoo for $2.99 only

The worst thing is that I don't speak German. Although site and prices (EUR4.90) looks promising...
Pillhead 04-01-2006, 08:33 AM With godaddy doing $6.95/year transfers, how much does it cost to renew?
It says in there "values" that youll never pay more than the original cost to renew the domain or the original cost to transfer the domain, so does that mean I will renew at $6.95?

Trophimus 04-02-2006, 10:13 AM 3 Suggestions:
Yahoo! Domains - Pretty good service. Support could be improved... Only $2.99
iPower Domains - Awsome service. Wonderful Support... $2.95 Domains
Fuse9.net - Great service. Good support... $2.99 domains WITH hosting
Stan Marsh 04-02-2006, 10:33 AM Twebdedigns >> Yahoo and iPower were discussed here countless of times with conclusions pretty different from yours...
Re: Fuse9 - you can get a domain for free almost from any other hosting company; look for deals at hosting offers section. It's a common knowledge here on WHT though that hosting and registrar should be left for a specialised companies i.e. buy hosting from hosting companies and domains from registrars.

Interesting. Maybe you should ask them the cost of renewal and when they tell you $8.95 ask them to interpret how that fits in with their values :)
tarkhorani 04-09-2006, 07:48 AM cheapest one is directi.com with $6.49 and onlinenic.com with 6.69
ptesite 04-09-2006, 12:37 PM I'm biased in favor of Namecheap, myself.
Richard 04-10-2006, 03:59 PM I use NameCheap. Paid the same price for a while now. Good interface, good support.

OMG! This was the EXACT question I asked Godaddy but they seem to be ignoring me! I asked the question in this thread:

I don't find that thread laydee :(
www.domainsite.com 7.99USD
paulrichards19 05-04-2006, 07:23 PM try go daddy.com
kohtao 05-07-2006, 02:13 PM namecheap are excellent. the domain interface is so easy to use and very often when purchasing a new domain it is working within 2 hours (atleast here from Thailand). Also support I have found is quick and efficient (Irma and Richard).
solidar 05-07-2006, 02:17 PM RegisterFly.com is $5.89 for .com names
Also Godaddy is good
I use and like both

Couldn't of said it better
kohtao 05-07-2006, 03:31 PM Used godaddy once - that was enough. Ripped me off for hosting - never sent me account details but wouldn't return payment even if cancelled 24 hours. I only cancelled because they didn't answer emails requesting the setup info. Thoroughly unreliable.
Registerfly I don't know about - but I am happy to pay a bit more for the quality that is namecheap.com
sharmila 05-07-2006, 06:40 PM I would say namecheap.com is the best domain registrar and charges are less too.
SEOKing 05-11-2006, 09:50 PM I register my domain names with IPOWER
qllonceagain 05-12-2006, 03:14 PM Found a website thourgh google search. They seem to keep an upto date list of cheap domain registrars.
