The best templates around are the ones made specifically for your site. Some of Template Monster templates like pretty sleek, but they're all show - very poorly engineered, even the ones that rely on CSS to control aspects of layout. If your only criterion for "best templates" is that they look nice and shiny, then yes, they're probably one of the best if not the best. But if you're talking about the other 90% of the development considerations that go into a Web site, they are very bad (as are most template providers).

Sorry, but I just don't have the time to do it, paid or not. Maybe you can just run it through Word or an online spell check?

TemplateMonster is stylish,
beautiful. but If you seek a corporate look, I don't think it's even a choice.

Beauty is on the inside, in this case, the HTML and CSS, and that, it is not! Beautiful they are not, stylish and sleek, yes.

I personally hate most of the templates on that site as they all seem to look the exact same.

A friend of mine recently showed me a site he designed, and I said 'bullsh*t -- that's a template site'. He admitted it was and lowered his head.

Fact is, ya, they look nice and such, but they are the equivalent to mass produced cars. Nice to look at, but not much under the roof.

so besides templatemonster, are there other sites selling good templates that may be better, faster, etc. and appropriate for web hosts?

If you know a little bit html and you want to use the templates as a base (like me) for your own designs you can try boxedart.com. Membership is only about $50 per year, it is the cheapest one for its quality and some templates are really nice.

There are actually some decent free templates here:

http://www.elated.com/pagekits/

and here:

http://www.templatesbox.com/templates.htm

I don't remember the usage requirements, though (e.g., linkbacks, free for personal use only, etc.) so be sure to check.

Currently, there's a gap in the template industry between valid, efficient, semantically-correct, accessible development and striking, engaging visual design. This might change in the near future.

And that's all anyone can say about that ;)

Get a good webdesigner for your self. Custom designed wbsites are far better than templates. If you still insist on templates then have a look at dynamicfactory.com Its a good template site too.

Try also elance, lots of good designers there for a good range of pricing. We used to design sites (we were hired by some seekers) through there but only did it for a short time. I just got too busy.

Template monster is to flashy and non-uniquee . Why not spend the little extra cash and get a custom template made or find a small webdesigner.

The big trouble about TM, their templates are not unique-- 2- heavy (never work on a 56k) -- 3- too flashy --4 doesn't look professional enough for hosting, perhaps for video games.

never actually used TM. Seems very pricy for what u get considering they are not exclusive.
