View Full Version : Looking for: Server Monitoring

We need to get a server monitoring solution put into place. We already use things like InternetSeer.com to make sure that the server is responding to web requests, but this isn't enough.

I want to be able to monitor the following:

-CPU usage (ie. if load > 10, or CPU at 100% for more than a few minutes)
-Disk usage (ie. Disks 90% full or more)
-Resource hogging
-Monitor mail processes (ie. If more than 5 sendmails running, someone is probably sending spam)
-Ensure processes are up (Jakarta, Apache, Bind, etc.)

Does anyone know of something that we can run that would check these things? Something that can page technicians automatically when certain thresholds are met would be great...

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Any idea what the cost is? It looks like it would be expensive...

Take care,

SiteScope is far from free. I beleive they switched over to the charge per monitor model recently. The only decent free monitoring software I know of is Big Brother (http://bb4.com/) It takes a bit of configuration, but people have made it monitor just about everything.

I wrote something like that for our machines a few days ago. It basically checks everything every 1-2 minutes, except disk usage. Hmm, i might make it available for you guys ;)

That would be nice :)

You could start MCSoftware.com , and sell all the scripts that you've created Kiwi ;)

You could also check out Netsaint (www.netsaint.org).

Ism't netsaint specifically for network service monitoring? Have they added server monitoring as well? Cuz it might be worth checking out again if they did.

Yep, with the plug-ins etc. you can monitor disk usage, http, pop, mysql etc.

Excellent!
I'll look into it again, it's been awhile since I looked at it last.
