View Full Version : .Info Domains, DNS Setup

I registered a few .info domains with NameSecure.

When I tried to change DNS servers it gave me an error.

Do the new DNS servers have to be setup a special way for .info? My nameservers start with ns1 and ns2 . . . does it have to be dns1 and dns2?

As long as the nameservers are registered within the .info namespace you should be able to use them without any problem.

What do you mean by .info namespace.

Most registries require you register the nameservers within their respective registries.

So if my DNS servers are registered with enom then I can only use those dns servers with enom and no other places?

no, if you have REGISTERED dns servers you can use them EVERYWHERE

ok - and it doesn't matter if I use ns1 or dns1 for my nameservers? ns1 and ns2 should work for everything ok?

For future reference, I had the same problem. Login to your namesecure account, Lock all domains the unlock then proceed to change yours nameservers. :)

the lock should only affect transfers, never on NS changes.

The name servers have to be registered, and once that happens they are only good for com and net right off the bat (assuming its a com or net name server, domain.com etc.)

Then you have to have the registrar create an out of zone dns zone record in the info or whatever TLD name space for that TLD - although with enom if you add them to the domain name from their UI interface it automatically creates them for you, however if you use the API it does not add them automatically and you either have to have enom do it, or add it to a domain from the UI before you can use it from an API command.

Im sorry, I should of explained why you have to do this with namesecure. It is a bug in their system they have not fixed yet and they told me the remedy to change my dns settings. I know what locks do and how they work and yes it seemed a bit odd to me that this was the fix for that but it worked. :)

So your .info's are *free*, aren't they? I thought NameSecure only offers domain forwarding or their "One-Page Mini-Site". Are you saying that you are able to modify nameservers? Thanks.

apparently so.

Do nameserver changes always take so long with .info or domains general? (At least a day)
