Hey,

I'm not TOO knowledgable when it comes to the inner-workings of a provider that offers dialup internet access. But, I would like to do this. I've considered the option of reselling the access from a wholesaler, but would like to take a look at the option of doing it myself.

Does anyone have any tips/advice? Any guides you can direct me to? What do you need? What are usually the costs involved for setting up the basics, once everything is said and done?

Thanks!

You mean actually having your own POP? (point of presence)

Here's what it cost last time I did, and we did it as cheap as we could:

1 T-1: 1200 per month
2 24 channel PRI's (gives 46 usable incoming lines): $1800 per month (total)
1 used Ascend max 4048 (to take incoming calls) $8000
1 good DNS/Email/Web/FTP server: $1000

setup fees for the T-1 and pri's were 1 months each, so up front:

roughly $12000
monthly $3000

and this is before you add a tech support phone line
or an employee

This was a small town ISP.

Hi Gary,

Someone gave you props on the Clark Howard msg board this week. (Actually, I don't know exactly how recent the post was, but surely within the past month). It's in the good customer service forum.

you may be better off reselling from another provider. thats what we decided to do ,

our month cost is only what the wholesale cost is for the account
