Hi. I have only been on shared hosting. My site is over 2 gb and uses probably at least 15 gb transfer a month.
Does anyone know where I can find a good dedicatd hosting plan for less than $90 per month? I need Frontpage extensions, multiple domain names, some email, and good customer support.

Thanks!

The cheapest I've ever seen is $99

www.rackshack.net
www.lightened.com

Can't think of anyone else personally that is near those prices.

Lease a 1U server (if you dont want to buy it..)
and then pay $50/U at www.affordablecolo.com (includes
15G transfer)

They offer very good support and i've worked with them on a number of times to do some remote hands stuff.

Thanks, guys, for the help! I will keep your offers on hand. I've got some cheaper shared hosting in the meantime that I'm going to try first. I would go with dedicated but my husband's always on my case to save money, so...I will try another cheapie shared hosting and see if this one works first!

I may be emailing you in a few months, hope the offers are still good...I have yet to find a shared web hosting company that I stay with longer than 6 months.

Suzanne, just note that the suggestions above are not from the owners of the companies mentioned. Offers from companies must be emailed/pm'ed directly to you, so you'll get those in your box(es).

Slanoue,

I did the "cheapie" shared method for quite a while, to the extent of housing all my images on a cheap server and the pages on my main "shared" server so I could keep good records on page views, plus the domain was fairly well placed in the search engines.

I have been SOOOo much happier/better off since going to a dedicated! For one, where I did "host" a few sites on the "virtual server" that I was renting, by the time I factored in the costs versus my income from the sites, I did not make a dime.

With a dedicated, if you can get a few client sites on your server, you will not only save money, you can very easily wind up making money.

The '99 dollar special at Rackshack is a very good way to go. I'd suggest going with a Cobalt RaQ, particularly if you are new to dedicated.

Jump in, the water is very nice and there are a number of resources to help you get started. You'll look back in a few months and be happy you did.

Thanks for your suggestion. I really would like to, but I can't afford it. I'm paying $85 for my current one but that's really too much for my "hobby" (my webpage). It's not a business site and I'm paying for everything out of my own pocket. My husband isn't too thrilled with how much I pay already so I couldn't go up to $99.
Unless someone here wants to buy advertising on my site, LOL!

You might want to check around and see if you might know a couple of people who you could offer space to for say maybe 10 bucks a month and bring it down.

The nice thing about a dedicated is.. say someone you know asks you to make them a site, you can not only make it for them you can offer them a really nice hosting package as well..

If you checked around, I'd bet you'd find more than a couple of your friends who would want to take you up on such an offer..

My business is an offshoot of what started out as a hobby. If you are good at it, you will get some sites simply by word of mouth.

Then your current $85. outlay might actually drop to zero and eventually turn around and more than pay for itself. I know that I'm not alone in how this has worked for other people.

Good luck, however you work it out.. I suspect your husband would really choke on the setup fees... which would have to be factored in.

As far as hobbies go, I was married and I can attest as a former husband that if my wife would have wanted to spend only $99 on her hobby, I'd have felt blessed! :bawling:

Thanks for the advice :)

I got some really great offers for both shared and dedicated. Quite a few of them are waiving the setup fee, thankfully. I'm going with the cheapest one right now and see how that goes...if not, at least I have a lot of great offers to fall back on!

Ha ha if this were my only hobby, he probably wouldn't mind...
