Hi,

I ordered a dedicated server with Tomsyer on Friday August 27, 2004 and as of today I still have not received any confirmation that my server is ready. I did contact technical support on Thursday last week and they confirmed that they are still working on it and that it should be ready soon. They also reassured me that my billing date would begin when the server is ready on not on the day I ordered.

My main concern is not really setup time since I planned the move to a dedicated server before the load on my website really justified one. My main concern is due to the fact that I am providing an eccommerce hosting service where all my customers operate online stores any downtime at all would really hurt my business. In fact any extended downtime might make some of my customers angry since their online stores would no doubt lose revenue.

My main concern with Tomsyer is support on critical issues. I don't mind if support takes a long time on a non-service effecting issues such as additional IP addresses, etc... What really interestes me is how good is the turn around time on resolving service impacting issues such as hardware failures, OS corruptions, etc.. If anyone has experiences with Tom on these types of critical issues I would love to hear from you before deciding whether to stick with Tom or to pay a little more for a more responsive dedicated server provider.

Thanks,

Sherif

Due to hurricane evacuation our billing and sales department offices have been closed until further notice! Support desk and forum will remain open!

- From their site, you have probibly seen that allready, but that is probibly why it has stopped as it is probibly in the sales department still.....

I would do a search of these forums as Tomsyer has been extensively discussed recently.

if i was you and the server will be for ecomerce sites i wont take a risk and i ll go with a great provider like servint.
This not mean tomsyer is bad ( at least we never heard some one have a server down with tomsyear) but your kind of business need sold provider who can resolve any problem in minuts.
Tomsyer has good servers in good dc but if a problem happen you ll need lot of time before you could resolve it ( maybe with time and with more employers tomsyer could be solid too).

Thanks for the advice. I did read all the previous tomsyer posts but they were mixed and almost nobody mentioned response time with respect to critical issues which is what I am most interested in.

I basically want a self managed server where I do everything myself but the safety net of someone to bail me out in case something goes very wrong. Also I offer a free service so price is defintly an issue for me.

Thanks,

Sherif

I think support can be sometimes on a slow side, however I cannot complain too much.

If you need high uptime, and quick response times, don't skimp on your server. Get a real managed server from a company such as ServInt.com. I still fail to understand why people put mission critical business applications and shopping carts on sub-$200 servers. There's a market looking for low-end servers, but mission critical business sites have their market, too.
